It seems like we may be headed this way, ala Spurrier (that Sleaze) during his FL days.

Jones has astounded me as a tireless coach, recruiter and cheerleader for our beloved Vols, but is he making a mistake not naming a starting QB only 13 games from the opener?

Could he not "Officially" name Worley and then "Unofficially" let Peterman, Dobbs et al know that the job is still very much open if one of them will just go out and take it?

What do you guys think?

Now flame away in the great Volnation tradition! :)

Please merge with the official QB controversy thread which so many say we do not have.
lulz.

My belief is with a young receiver corp Butch sure would like to have a more mobile option. None have stepped up enough to knock off Worley though. We have 2 cupcakes for that to possibly happen. If Worley is the man for 2014 then Butch will start making that clear this week and definately prep week. I suspect you won't hear much other than Worley gets the "start" against AP. JMO

I would have to see a better performance out of Worley before I would name him starting QB. That's just me though. I see him being the starter since he was pictured in the new unis.

I think he isn't naming a starter at QB yet so he can keep the competition high until the AP game.

I agree with this for the most part. It is concerning though that Worley can't seem to separate himself. I think Dobbs and Ferg will redshirt unless the wheels come completely off because of bad QB play and BJ decides to build for the future. Worley may get the first snap, but Peterman may be the guy longterm.

I think Worley will start the AP game but peterman will get to play in that game and then after that game is when I believe CBJ nails down who our QB will be. JMO

Duel QB's? It's looking more like quad QB's at this point.
The job will be wide open even after the season starts.IMHO

lulz and starting threads dog cursing them for one play and then having competing threads congratulating them when they make a good play.

I believe you touched on this in another thread. It seems Butch has it under control. Which doesn't leave the media or us much to chose from on the controversy front. I'm totally fine with reading multiple threads speculating on the future QB. We all know that there has been rougher offseasons for us.

I can't wait for this season to really start so we can actually have threads worth a dern.

To avoid any confusion, I wasn't trying to single out your post & be an azz towards it. You're one of the good ones around here. And yes, in a couple of weeks, most of us will be happier. :)

I think this season will play out a lot like 2010. Worley will start and be replaced by Ferg around the USCe game.

The two-headed QB doesn't usually work out very well, so I hope Butch doesn't go that route (or need to).

Worley has done nothing to just be handed the starting spot. Dobbs will takeover by the 4th or 5th game. He showed his potential and playmaking in the scrimmage with the two best plays of the game.

Last time we beat Florida, we had a two freshmen quarterback system. TIFWIW:hmm:

I think he is looking at the fact we have 2 preseason games prior to Oregon, so (like Muschamp did last year), he can play the 2 best in a real game situation and see who performs the best. I think we don't find out the final starter until after AP.

Agree, we need to move on to second guessing coaches and benching players.

They're ahead of the curve this year tim. Some are already wanting to bench Worley, Palardy, Neal...

Haven't seen anybody second guess Butch tho...He gets it. :)
