This year's team is similar talent wise to '09 when Kiffin took a more talented team (and eventual champs) in Alabama to the brink.

I think the '09 Bammer squad was more talented than this '13 version. On the other side, I think we are a little more talented at the skill positions and in the trenches now than in '09.

Hot new coach and a confident team.

So many similarities. I think we make the FG this time.

That 09 team had Montario Hardesty, A trending John Crompton, Denarious Moore, Gerald Jones, and Eric Berry. I think the 09 team had more talent than we do now but not by much.

I think we need to be realistic and realize how absolutely dominant Bama has looked since the A&M game. Confidence is at an all time high, but I'm not going to predict a win for the Big Orange in T-town. If anything, I just want us to look like we belong on the same field as them. If we can play tough, good football, I think it'll be very fun to watch.

Maybe, maybe not..... But if not, it isn't our fault. Make no mistake, Alabama is very good.

The 2009 team was more developed IMO. They were 1 year off of Fulmer coached Tennessee Football, whereas this team has spent it's tenure under Dooley. Similar talent, less so in terms of talent development IMO.

We're finally seeing these guys getting coached up to their ability though. Sure wish they'd had Jones for the past 3-4 years instead of just nearly 1 now.

Then it wouldn't be a repeat of the 2009 game...

I think you guys are forgetting how thin that '09 team was.

Especially along the lines.

You have to admit, however, there are a ton of similarities here.

Confidence being the main one.

I don't think our run game is where it was in 09. Close however.

If you prevent big plays and do not commit turnovers, you always have a chance.

Bama has to play a pretty bad game for it to be a repeat.

With our best effort and no turnovers we lose by a couple touchdowns.

Considering that Alabama has shut out 2 of the last 3 SEC opponents they've faced and considering that our offense still struggles quite a bit at moving the ball and putting points on the board, I don't like this match-up at all.

Stranger things have happened. At least Mccarron isn't a threat to scramble right? I think Shaw is still running through our D.

We had to catch an onside kick to get that last drive. I don't know how similar the teams circumstances are to 09 obviously but would love to give Palardy the chance to wreck Bamas hopes and dreams!

I think the Orange Mile coming down on Shaws legs squashed his scrambling. 360 lbs has a way of changing momentum when it is coming down on you.

Eric Berry was the key on defense ..he was equal to having 13 defenders on the field . He was one of the greatest impact players in modern Vol history. He gave D coaches so much freedom and changed the way offenses had to attack

Throw out the Johnny Ball game and Bama allows 4 pts a game.
Don't see much hope for this O.

One big difference between the 09 and this years Bama, McCarron. He is a senior, who is very accurate and one of the best QBs in the country. He is not very mobile, but he gets the ball out quickly and has a lot of stud receivers to throw to.

Speed has been our kryptonite right? Well Drake is about as fast as it comes. If we are to win some things have to happen:

1). We will have to play a perfect game both offensively and defensively. We cannot I've up huge plays on defense and cannot turn the ball over on offense.
2). Alabama is going to have to make mistakes. We are going to have to get him off his rhythm and cause him to make mistakes.
3). Neal, Lane, North and Worley will have to play otherworldly. Bamas defense has gotten it together ever since the A&M game. They are not going to give up many big plays.
4). Our defense is going to have to play lights out and create multiple turn overs. Alabama is a very balanced team that is very good at every position. Their offensive line is a lot better than our d line and pass rushers.

I will always root for UT and I will be hoping for the upset. UT is playing good football right now and we have a lot of confidence and with CBJ anything is possible. That being said I really don't see how we keep this game close. I don't think we are there just yet and Alabama is just too good.

I want to see our team go out there, give 100% and be competitive. I also want to see continued improvement from all of our young players. I really don't think we can ask for much more.

My office has terrible infestation of Bammers, and we have a tenuous relationship with no one smack-talking too much (that is reserved for the couple of devastated Jawja fans). No one is harder on their teams than diehard fans, so take this with a grain of salt...I in no way expect the Vols to win (I'm hoping for another of those moral victories...sigh), but the Bammers to a man are terrified of this game. I cornered one and asked why? "I fully expect us to take the game...putting it away early in the third and letting you come back and make a game of it...final, 35-24." Why all the fuss then? "The Vols don't have the talent yet, but they effing hit people...I see McCarron getting sacked sometime before the half and blowing out his ACL. Done...there goes the SEC and NC."

You know, he's right...we will absolutely lay one on opposing players. I don't know whether to be proud of the fear we elicit from other teams or not...but I do know one thing, I look forward to the time in the near future when teams will fear us for the beating we will put on them both on the field and on the scoreboard! The biggest difference I see between this team and every team going back to the Fulmer dynasty, is that most of the time when they hit you, you stay down. No more arm talks or backs bouncing off of the initial contact.

Oh and special teams...awesome special teams play compared to the past.
