So we are getting turned down.

We can't help that. Our AD is obviously LOW-BALLING people (can't explain it really).

We need to give this guy a look. He Beat Malzahn this year.

back to back winning seasons at w. Kentucky.

Thought of as one of the best young coaches in college football.

Oh and he runs the dang football.

his running-back has 1600 yards rushing.

With talent the sky is the limit for this guy

CWT is being interviewed for the USF opening.

Hate to see Willie T leave Western, but he'd be a homerun for USF if it happens. Can't blame him for going home either. He'll be a thorn in the side for the big boys in FL, especially around the Bay area.

CWT has very disciplined teams. Focuses on ground game. From Harbaugh coaching tree, I bekieve.

If they hire smart over this guy who has proven he can be a good HEADCOACH then hart needs to go.

love this idea. guys young and i'd say a better option than a lot of the rumors. TN cant recruit on history anymore and this guy can relate to 17 year olds

He would fail in the SEC...That's easy..Let him take an easier job an maybe he'll do something...He's not ready for a program like UT.

As as student at WKU, I'd hate to seem him leave after what he has done for the program. Ending our long a$$ home losing streak, a winning season followed by another one, a bowl game for the first time ever, HS stadium full(ish) again, it's great on campus on Saturdays. But as for the jump from Sun Belt to SEC, I don't think he's ready for it yet. To the Big East with USF, sure, but to UT.

I like Taggart, but he's definitely a risky hire. He's improved Western Kentucky, but winning in the SunBelt isn't exactly like winning in the SEC. Moreover, he doesn't have much in the way of marquee wins at WKU. I think he'll get them eventually, but it still remains to be seen. And yet, I'd still be pretty happy if he were hired.

People on this board (and in the fanbase in general) are too obsessed with this "home run hire" concept, which is why our search has mostly targeted coaches we had no shot at getting. Look, Mike Gundy is a great coach, but OK State is his alma mater and T. Boone Pickens has deep pockets --- it was completely unrealistic to get him. By focusing on "home runs", we've missed out on great coaches like Dave Doeren, Bret Bielema, and Gus Malzahn.

I wouldn't mind taking a chance on Taggart; particularly over some of the other options, but it's going to require some patience from the fanbase (which I'm not sure is forthcoming). I also trust the Jim Harbaugh coaching tree more than I do the Nick Saban one.

Badgers Coaching Candidate Q&A Session: Steven Godfrey on Willie Taggart - Bucky's 5th Quarter

It sucks I have to waste my first post on this and I'm sure I'm going to get flamed for posting this but here goes nothin.... This guy is going to be a great one for a big time school very soon. Yes he is young. But he relates to his players. He is from the most fertile recruiting ground in America. He learned everything he knows from the Harbaugh family... He'll, Jim was his best man in his wedding. And he runs the rock. Yes it sucks that we have fallen to the point where we are taking WKU's coach.. I get that. But this guy took the worst BCS eligible team and has taken them to 2 straight bowls. He would be a recruiting monster at UT. We need to accept where we are, get over ourselves, and just put our head down and go to work.

And Smart is?

I wish we was more like Auburn and hire someone who has potential not some overrated big east coach like strong or jones.

Even winning in the Sun Belt is a big deal when your school is located in Kentucky while every other conference school is in talent rich states, save maybe Middle. He's competiting against FL, LA, and TX schools more often than not and even their leftovers are better than many of the best in KY. The best part, is he's kicking their ass in recruiting, which means he's having to get out of state talent to BG. I don't care what their star rankings are, his ability to get 20-30 FL kids to WKU is paramount in itself.

UT may be too big of a jump, I don't deny that, but for VolnMiami to say he'd be a fail in the SEC is foolish. He runs a hardnosed, smashmouth offense predicated on running the ball and dares you to stop it. His offense would succeed in the SEC no question. The man lost the nation's leading rusher last year and still produced a 1600 yard rusher this year, in his first season as a starter. In addition to rushing for 1600 yards, Antonio Andrews is also on pace to break Barry Sanders NCAA single season all purpose yardage record.

Great post. This guy is not a homerun (yet) but if we gave him the three years Dooley had he would still be our coach and I honestly believe that.

If Wisconsin gets him we will be feeling stupid in a couple years. I can't believe we are not talking to this guy.

I would take him right now over any of the names that we are still floating around.

Give the guy 2m and let him hire rockstar coordinators.

He is perfect for Wisconsin. They play "big boy" offense. Wisconsin is a successful SEC team minus that whole thing the rest of our conference calls a defense. We, on the other hand, are Hawaii in the Colt Brennan days.

I didn't say that. I was just stating that Wisconsin is committed to an offensive style of play that I hope we can get back to. And before all of the sarcastic , "yeah, because our offense was the problem this year." comments. How many teams run up tempo, no huddle offenses and have dominant defenses? Not many. I agree with you. He is an excellent fit for UT.
