Windows 10 Update Issues

Hey techies, looking for some ideas.

My computer downloaded and installed some kind of update to my system about 4 days ago. The odd thing was I restarted my pc and when the login screen popped up I put in my password and it proceeded to tell me that it was logging me into a temporary account. In the background it was still installing an update. I reboot and log back into Windows and I'm able to get back into my account.

Ever since then I type in my password at the login screen and hit enter and it now takes like 15-20 seconds for it to login. In addition, I'm now having this odd problem where when I log back in my mouse cursor goes invisible. I can still move it around as it invisibly highlights the icons it passes over. The cursor seems to reappear after about 7-8 seconds.

Here is the odd thing. I KNOW some sort of update was installed but when I go to view installed updates the latest windows update is over a month ago.

Any ideas?

Sounds like a virus.

See if you can do a System Restore from a few weeks back.

Regardless, try to do a System Restore prior to your last update. If you can, that most likely will fix it.

I built my PC from the case up and after I put Win 10 on it and done the updates a few days later it started logging me in to a temp acct. After a lot of digging and talking to the useless tech support from Microsoft I ended up reinstalling win 10 on my PC and I haven't had any issues with it in over 5 months. I hope this helps in some way.

You're being directed to a temp profile because something is amiss with your user profile.

Do you have anything of import stored in your use profile? Are you logging in with a Microsoft Live ID?

I actually have folders on my desktop that I use on a regular basis. I suppose I should move those. I am not logging in with MS Live.

Aavoxx is correct on the user profile issue. It's a pretty simple fix, as you would need to rename two files in the registry, and that should do it. We've seen this all the way down to Windows 7.

Well, it turns out my issues were far worse than expected. I wasn't just having OS issues I had a failing hard drive on board. To make a long story short does anyone know where I can download a copy of windows 10 version 1511? I wasn't able to make a recovery disc because the hard drive was damaged and HP wants me to pay for a copy of the recovery media because "it's not covered under their normal 12 month warranty".

As long as the Windows 10 Key is coded in the BIOS, which most are these days, you can use the USB media creation tool for Windows 10. All you have to do is run the tool on a good install from any Windows 10 computer, and it will create a USB drive for installing Windows 10. If you even have a Windows 7 Pro key laying around, that will work too, as Windows 7 Pro keys are able to be used for activating Windows 10 Pro according to Microsoft's upgrade/downgrade licensing.

Also, if you having to replace the drive in it, consider getting an SSD and installing it instead. SSD's are the best option these days, unless you have like 4TB of cold data. Those people who store like 80GB can get a huge performance increase by getting a 500GB SSD. It's almost like a new computer.

That's the thing. The laptop is new, it was purchased on July, 2016. I just bought and installed a new WD 1TB 7200rpm drive.

Hah! I may just have found a copy of Windows 10!

If you're going to surf porn hardcore then invest in a keyboard cover. :)

Last week I bought a new laptop with Windows 10. It's an HP. I know this is minor but I can get the little smiley icons on this site to work when I double click them. I use the mouse pad that's built-in. How can I fix this? Thanks.

Clicking a smiley either from "post quick reply" or "post reply" is always a single right click. A double click will insert two of the same smileys. Does the right click on the touchpad work like it's supposed to everywhere else except for inserting smileys on this site?
