Mods move if necessary. Just got windows 8 and a new laptop and was wondering if anybody has attempted at making a vols theme other than just a wallpaper?

:mega_shok: Good grief. I'm beginning to think that some of you subconciously miss Dooley so much that you have to mention him in every thread. :furious3:

Tell me about it. I completely agree Dooley should've got the can. But lay off the guy. He took a miserable job and granted didn't do anything on the field but he did leave UT in a better place than when he got it. You people act like he's the worst person in the world because he failed at UT on the field. Cut the guy some slack. Was it really shocking to find out he was in over his head? Think back to the national media reaction to him being hired.

Mac is awesome. 2 year old technology at sky high prices. Can't beat it.

So your telling me I might be able to use it. You just sold me on it. Who cares about the price if its on my level.

My friend from high school just bought a Mac. I thought it was so brave of him to come out of the closet

This line and your avi just made me think of when kids would rip and burn on each other in high school and go "OOOHHHHH"

Giveem6, I will try to give you a serious answer. First, I don't know anything much about Windows 8 except I stay away from it. It's not designed for people who do serious work on computers.

Now the theme that's not wall paper, it depend son exactly what you want. if not wallpaper, perhaps a screensaver. In which case you can create your own. Example: My deaf bud once created a screensaver of animated Vols cheerleaders busting some funky moves inside Neyland Stadium. And another with some kind of Vol themed clock. That was several years ago and he dumped them for some reason. I think to him it was playing around with software stuff and little else.

In any case, to do this, you must have screensaver software or a darn good video editor. Then know how to load them into Windows .scr folder or something like that.

I believe if you're a skilled Flash user you can also create your own screensavers.

What I said above applies also to slideshow themes.

wait, wait! Now, I remember. My deaf pal dumped his screensavers because he made one for some guy who bragged to others. Word got to UT people who contacted him and warned about trademark and copyright infringement. A shame because he probably could have made some cool UT stuff. Including UT theme icons I have seen on his laptop when he brings it over.

Yeah, a $2,500.00 Facebook machine would've been a much better choice :lolabove:

My former employer was a mac addict. He came to me with a budget of 2500$ to buy a mac laptop for work.

We ended up buying a $1000 dollar HP laptop with more storage, faster processors and better graphics. His argument against the HP initially was "the mac will last longer". Well, maybe but you can replace the HP 2.5 times for one Mac and actually upgrade each time. If the HP only lasts two years, you get 5 years of continual upgrades for one mac that in 5 years is obsolete too.

No brainer.

The only way to make a PC as powerful as a Mac is to install Linux or some flavor of Unix on it. If you FB, VN, and tweet all day, then any PC will do. If you create something, odds are high you do it on a Mac.

That said, I prefer Linux on cheap PC hardware for everything but audio work these days.

Maybe. I like macs but use a PC because software I use dictates I do. Now, as for power, there are PC's that are superior to Macs. Namely high end ($$$) gaming machines. For example, if you're familiar with Sager. MSI, and ASUS brand gaming notebooks, you know what I mean. When you take one of their big boys and use it for something like video editing, animation work, or other heavy duty work, you got lots of processing muscle, speed, memory, and a massive GPU. Example: Some of their machines will accept up to three HDDS, house CPUs that are the same for a full blown desktop or towercase, accepts up 32GB RAM (rumors are they can be tweaked to take 64GB), and have GPUs that use 3GB DDR5 memory. I know this because my deaf pal showed me these monsters online. Some vendor named Xoti or something like that. He has one with a 17 or 20 inch screen and adapter the size of a brick. Heavy sucker too. So if you used this thing to make Vols theme screensavers, videos, or anything else, it won't lag behind a Mac if the software is otherwise equal.
