I'm needing some help planning another winter vacation west of the Mississippi. I've been to Denver and Colorado Springs as well as Bozeman, MT and was blown away with the scenery but want to go somewhere new this time. Looking to get a day of snowboarding in and want to experience the mountains again as well as some night life. Not really looking for an intense hike but not opposed to an easy one, would prefer a place that has a trolly like Pikes Peak or access roads.

Anybody got some good recommendations that won't be too crazy packed?

I would recommend Sturgis, SD and the Black Hills/Custer National Forest area, or the Black River Falls area of Wisconsin.

Schweitzer Mountain near Sandpoint, ID. Not a whole ton of nightlife in Sandpoint but I love that place for quick visits.

Spokane, WA is also great. There are many great either mountains nearby.

Seattle and Portland can take care of you in those regards as well.

Probably more crowded than you are looking for, but as a former Jackson, WY ski bum I have to say you will not find much better skiing. For less crowds, Grand Targhee on the other side of the Tetons is terrific.

Just got back from Colorado Springs and spent a day at A-Basin while we were out there. I’m trying to convince the wife to go to Jackson Hole for Christmas. Have heard great things.

My favorite Colorado ski slope. Did you do any tailgating on the beach?

When you where in Denver did you check out Vail and leadmine? That is one serious length of I 70. And a place that knows how to do a party.

Nah we didn't. I recognize the area you're referring to and we were parked right next to it, but I didn't realize that was a thing while we were there. I did have multiple bloody marys that were delicious. Had a deal where they were 2-3 dollars each.

I like Salt Lake City. Lots of places to go around the area. National parks close by and the ski areas are only 30-40 mins away.

I know it doesn't fit the western criteria...but Iceland is amazing and inexpensive to travel to. Can't RV if that was the plan, but amazing hiking, etc.
