Wiseman ineligible

James Wiseman dropped the lawsuit..so that the school and the NCAA can come to some sort of understanding about how long he may sit.
IF the school and James' legal team don't think that its a fair solution...they reserve the right to re-file the lawsuit...in which the NCAA will get absolutely hammered.
The legal team is headlined by Leslie Ballin (rhymes with ALLEN, not ALL-N) Steve Farese, and James? Fishman....several of Memphis's finest and toughest litigators in the state of Tennessee...much less Memphis,TN.
Farese and Ballin got a Brownsville,TN woman off after she murdered her preacher husband a few years back by shooting him in the back.
It came out that she had been a victim of a Nigerian 419 scam...and her legal team concocted some type of slanderous treatment of her by her husband...who I again remind you was a preacher of the church in their community.

James's lawsuit and injunction actually AIDED the University of Memphis...as the school was insulated from him playing in the early season games.
For him NOT to have played...Memphis would have been found in contempt of court.

If you are guilty het Leslie Ballin. He'll likely get you off

I still think the NCAA will lay down a sizable hammer. P.S. Memphis would have lost is bottom in court, even though it's usually the NCAA that loses cases. Memphis, you see, is the NCAA. Each school is the NCAA. Memphis agreed to play by these rules as part of the body. Memphis then flipped double birds to every other school in the NCAA and played Wiseman anyway. It probably should have went this way in a negotiation.

NCAA: Memphis, you agreed to abide by these rules as part of the NCAA. If you don't wish to abide by the very rules you helped set and agreed to, you will be removed from this body and no teams from this body will be allowed to play against you in any sport.

Memphis: We surrender.

It won't surprise if the NCAA makes a dumb decision in this case, but Memphis has 0 power here. None. The NCAA should make an example out of them for the future. If not, where is the detriment to openly buying 5 stars? They miss part of the exhibition season then get to play anyway?

Improve his market value? Wiseman could have gone to Murray State and he still would be a top 3 pick.

Well, there is a significant difference in $ between #1 and #3 but disregard draft position because he still might be #1. Zion's not getting the largest shoe contract ever by sitting out last year.

Wiseman was thought of much higher than Zion before their freshmen years

The injunction protected the University of Memphis from having to forfeit any games.
If Memphis had not played him...they could have been held in contempt of court.
Wiseman's lawsuit named Memphis AND the NCAA as defendants...because Memphis is a NCAA member institution.
I'm not a lawyer, but couldn't Memphis have voluntarily chosen to sit him on their own. If so, the NCAA can still find the university culpable and force the forfeiture of games that he appeared in, if necessary. The injunction only stated that the NCAA and Memphis couldn't withhold him from competition based on an eligibility ruling. It didn't state that he HAD to play. He could have dressed and still not have appeared, and UofM wouldn't have to face potential forfeits in those games.

Not true...he still has the option of re-filing his lawsuit if he and his legal team don't like the terms that the school and NCAA hammer out.
Contrary to what you have heard....James's legal team is top notch...the NCAA was about to get hammered.

They told him he was eligible to play. Penny and the school told them about the earlier help that was given.
Then NCAA comes back and tell the school that the certification of being eligible was given "in error", but that they would honor it anyway.
Then the NCAA comes back and says he's not eligible...after telling the kid they WOULDN'T do this.
James could have signed a pro contract...played overseas making major money for a season...until he became the top pick in the upcoming NBA Draft...and the NCAA at that point had taken that away from him with this ruling.
Zion Williamson was put up in a $500,000 home by Duke...Duke investigates...say they find nothing wrong ..and the NCAA said "Okie dokie".
No major fuss pitched.
This is the second time within a 10-12 year period where Memphis has signed the nation's #1 recruit..and the NCAA screwed us over.
The first time this happened..the NCAA declared Derrick Rose eligible THREE TIMES.
Im sorry, but it seems a little naive to think that I am ignorant to the validity of Wiseman's legal team, and then turn around and assume that a billion dollar institution like the NCAA doesn't have a crack legal team of their own. They weren't about to get hammered by anyone.

Parrish said his educated guess is that he gets 4-5 games and they vacate their 2 wins, which is different than forfeit. They are essentially 0-1.

If that’s true, folks can debate whether the lawsuit helped all day long, but it appears it is getting worked out.

Yes, then Zion played college basketball for Duke and became a superstar/sensation/must see TV and became the number one draft pick and got paid by Jordan Brand. Wiseman is in a scandal, already cost his team a forfeit loss and will have to sit out multiple games. Wiseman was solid but not spectacular in his 2 games, while Zion probably became the 1st round pick after 2 game, hell, probably after that first game beatdown of UK.

Plus, Wiseman is too skinny and kinda soft, I think he grows out of it and will still be a top 3 pick, but this sh!tshow won't help him

The underlying philosophy of Msgr. Hardaway, the one that sells himself ( a mulit-millionaire) to poor(er) kids in the Memphis area is, "they (anyone other than UM e.g UT) hate us, belittle us, put us down. Join me and I will show you how to make a ton of money on the Man's back".

This is a powerful message to pre-adults who may have impoverished families and zero chance of any social recognition outside of ball.

But that has little to do with marketability. It's not really about how good you are, it's more about how you play and/or personality. First and foremost, you have to be relevant and playing on national TV to become the kind of star that gets big shoe deals.

What are you talking about? He was barely playing 20 mpg and was averaging 20, 11, and 3 shooting 77%. That's the very definition of spectacular.

Have u seen him, he's not ever going to have a body like DeAndre Ayton even in college. But, like I said he will get bigger, better and be a star in the NBA. He put up good numbers in his 2 games, but it wasn't Zion domination numbers

Anthony Edwards has put up spectacular numbers. Cole Anthony, too. Wiseman was solid, whether Penny held him back or he got in foul trouble, they lost and didn't take over and will his team to a win. But, u will argue all day and I have to work a 2nd job tonight, so ✌

The modern NBA doesn't need/want him to have Ayton's body. He's plenty big right now and he'll fill out. I'll take Wiseman's quickness over Ayton's size.

77% from the field, bro. 77 fkn percent. You're arguing with 20, 11, 3, and 77% and I'm the one who will argue all day?

noted sports attorney Richard G Johnson stated his reasons that Memphis and Penny had done nothing wrong.
He was one of the first attorneys to take it to the NCAA and beat them.

Jerry Tarkanian also sued the NCAA...and beat them.
They are an unorganized bureaucracy.
With all the money they make they SHOULD have a crack team of lawyers...but they don't.
Duke, UNC...and other NCAA cheaters like LSU, Arizona, Kansas, KY all prove that,

Understand its nothing personal...Memphis is a NCAA institution...the injunction was filed against Memphis and the NCAA...but Memphis was behind it all the way.
Wiseman's legal team ensured the university could not be held liable for him playing by filing the injunction.
The school president is the only person who can rule a student ineligible...according to sports lawyer Richard G Johnson .

completely inaccurate.
Memphis once had a special relationship with its high school players. A lot of the best players used to grow up wanting to be Tiger players when they grew up.
That relationship fizzled after Larry Finch was fired...as none of the head coaches afterward up until Pastner tried to rebuild inroads to Memphis high schools.
Pastner fizzled out..and Tubby Smith had absolutely no interest in recruiting.
As it was..Memphis kids had no interest in playing for him anyway..so his fate was sealed almost before the ink on his contract dried after initially signing it to begin with.

Penny is rebuilding the mindset of Memphis basketball under Dana Kirk and Larry Finch....we'll play anyone, anywhere, any time.
He can sell a vision of making it to the pros if you have the skillset...as the majority of he and his staff have NBA experience.

At Ohio State...Chase Young's punishment was lowered to 2 games.
Similar case.
