I know the loss of Estrella and Cam were not expected, but we could use a couple of more D1 SEC quality players. Barnes may need to adjust on 2 foul rule since Gainey is not a point guard and Boswell is just not ready. Our walk ons are not like Jajuan Smith back in the day.

Yeah, I think we will learn from this next year. Problem is, we may have to fill it in with players who aren't necessarily SEC quality players. Estrella in particular was tough.

We have 2 top 30 guys about to commit. And Zeigler and Mashack will be back with the 5th year.
Hope that is true! My theory on why Chaz is struggling some is that we don't have any second string guard to challenge him in practice. Tonight he turned it over when he tried to put it on the floor and drive a couple of times and I think that is because he has no one to challenge him in practice when he is with Z and Shak on same 5 in practice. Gainey is ok on him, but not not like best defender on other team.

How do you know what?
What would make Zeigler and Shack eligible that wouldn't apply to Gainey, Igor, Dubar, or Lanier?
I'm not aware of anything atm that would surely allow ZZ and Mashack to play another year.

Dubar and Lanier are playing in their 5th year now. Igor can go make money in international ball - possibly even get an NBA contract.

I think that Gainey, Mashack, and ZZ are all possible returners..

Covid year ( freshman year for Dubar and Lanier) essentially didn't count at all against eligibility because an additional year was added to eligibility ( 6 instead of 5)
That's how Dubar and Lanier were eligible to play this year. If an additional year is granted to players like ZZ and Mashack via the JUCO ruling, it should apply to Dubar and Lanier, too.

Even so, I still haven't seen anything that definitely says players like ZZ, Shack, and Gainey could come back for another additional year.

COVID gave players 6 years to play 5. Those two are playing their 5th now.

I know, I just said that. Again, Freshman year was a wash year. 21-22 was the first year normal eigibility counted against Dubar or Lanier because they just bumped up eligibility a year.

20-21 ( no count)
21-22 1st
22-23 2nd
23-24 3rd
24-25 4th
25-26 5th

Even if point is moot, what makes you think ZZ and Mashack have been surely granted another year?

20-21 does count towards 5, not 6 years.

I never said that ZZ and Mashack have been granted another year. That’s possible legislation. I don’t think that a 6th year without a medical hardship waiver is being considered.

Well, that was my whole point. JUCO ruling is for those that attended a non-NCAA school prior to coming to a NCAA school.
That wouldn't apply to ZZ or Mashack anyways since they've attended an NCAA school their whole career.
If they somehow granted an additional year for those that attended NCAA school their whole career, guys like Dubar and Lanier are going to be suing for another year next.

Until I read or hear of a convincing argument, I'm confident guys like ZZ and Mashack will not be getting another year.

The days of depending on incoming freshmen are over. It is all about the transfer portal and even more about NIL. Pay the best players to transfer in and win immediately. It is that simple.

It's far from being simple. Recruiting the best HS players isn't going away, plus you need guys like ZZ, Mashack and Phillips in the program. Balancing that out with the portal is anything but simple

There's a reason guys like Carr, Dillione, etc left the program.

There's a reason guys like Carr, Dillione, etc left the program.

Because they couldn’t win playing time in the current year and probably get recruited over in the future?

Because they have handlers telling them that they’re better than they are?

Because they’ve underestimated how hard they’d be coached?

All of the above?
