I wonder if much consideration has been given to a more “ centralized “
SEC HQ ?
It’s a long way from Austin and Norman to Columbia SC , just as it has
been a great distance from Columbia Mo to Gainesville.
Just looking at a map, Memphis seems like a possible location. It wouldn’t
really be that big an advantage for UT; I think there are 5 or 6 SEC teams closer
to Memphis than UT and the Memphis fan base is pretty split up ( unlike Birmingham
which is overwhelmingly Bama ). Just something to think about .

Anyone needing to travel from the schools to the SEC headquarters is going via a private jet. So the exact location isn't a big deal in that regard. I can't imagine the league taking on the cost of a move for any reason other than some kind of lease/tax break that's too good to pass up.

If the SEC were to move the HQ, I would hate to see it in Memphis due to all the terrible roads and highways there. Maybe Jefferson City or St Louis, MO? Shreveport, LA? Chattanooga? The only place I can think of with worse roads than Memphis would be Jackson, MS. A major problem with Birmingham is the cost of lodging in the area or anywhere close by.

I had read somewhere online the SEC was looking to have offices in both Dallas and Atlanta. Don't know if that was from a reliable source or just speculation.

As bad as Memphis is, it would be more centrally located, is about as neutral of a city than can be found and really can't be much worse than Birmingham.

Charlotte makes no sense geographically plus the ACC just moved their HQ here last year. Hope they didn't sign too long of a lease.

The first SEC office was in Jackson, MS, then in the late 1940's Nathan Doughtery became SEC commissioner for a couple of years and he ran it from his on campus office at Tennessee. After that it was officially located in Tuscaloosa, I mean Birmingham.

The SEC Network is headquartered in Charlotte.

Put it in New Oleans. Well, that might not be such a good idea as they are liable to get shot.
