some thoughts on the evening action:
1. Really good win for Arkansas. Maybe now they'll live up to the talent on their roster.
2. UCLA is awesome. I seriously doubt anyone else in the PAC 10 is going to sweep the Bay Area road swing.
3. I feel better and better about leaving USC out of my preseason top 25.
4. Washington State just keeps winning. It's not artistic, just effective.
5. LSU is awful. I realize they've got injury issues, but they aren't even competitive.
6. I'm not in the mood to go into all the details to explain the next statement, just trust me. Wyoming coach Heath Schroyer is the biggest douchebag in college basketball.
7. You've got to admire Dennis Felton for standing on principle and tossing Brown and Mercer. However, you've got to wonder if the UGA adminstration is going to give him much more time.
8. Looks like Steve Alford and New Mexico may be a perfect marriage. The Lobos have almost matched last year's win total already.
9. Cincinnati isn't mature or talented enough yet to sustain prosperity.
10. Two good teams flying under the radar: Akron and Illinois State.

Good stuff Hat. I thought USC would be better than what they really are, I was wrong on that. What is you take on UNC? I know they are a good team and all but do you see them going to the final 4? TIA

I think Carolina is certainly a Final Four contender.

There are only 4 great teams in the country this year UCLA, UNC, Kansas, and Memphis....after that it's really a toss up although i think Georgetown and maybe Texas could be a great team....and the SEC makes me just want to wait until baseball/softball season......on another Note I think if gottfried at bama doesn't make the NCAA tourney he is done there and with his team he won't make it haha

Two questions:

1. For betting purposes, what teams from the Big 6 conferences + MTW and MVC are overrated and underrted going into conference play? For instance, I believe Cal will be a good team to fade in P10 play.

2. Would you put the top 4 teams RIGHT NOW as UCLA, Memphis, Kansas, and UNC?

And did Charlie Coles schedule the toughest OOC schedule out there this year?

UNC has a tough matchup tonight in Clemson. They should be able to handle them, but Clemson is pretty good. They have been playing some high energy ball.

1. Overrated: NC State, West Virginia, Purdue, Texas Tech, Florida, USC, Creighton, and UNLV.
Underrated: Boston College, South Florida, Minnesota, Baylor, Mississippi State, Arizona State, Drake, and Utah.
2. Kansas, Memphis, UCLA, and UNC, in that order.

I agree. That's why I asked Hat what he thought of UNC. I would really want to see UNC play somebody that will half way give them a run.

I was at the NC State Presbyterian game yesterday and State played with no emotion. They were losing at the half to a 1-18 team but won 50-43. They have 3 guys on the front line over 6-10 yet getting out rebounded. Their guard play is suspect and 3 point shooting is the worst in the ACC. As a preseason team to finish third in the ACC, they will be lucky to finish in the top 6.

Didn't they lose there top PG to a torn ACL??

Yes Dagand tore his ACL, but they were struggling with him in the lineup. Marques Johnson has been suspect in 3 games since becoming eligible. Frosh Javier Gonzalez will also share duties at the 1 position. So far Gonzalez has gotten more playing time.

State has not had a decent point guard since Corchiani.

Collison is a weak defender. If UCLA plays anyone in the tourney with decent guard play they will be in trouble.

collison's not a great defender, but weak is a bit strong. He couldn't play for Howland and be a weak defender, period. Their defensive weakness appears to be in the paint, where their centers are undersized or not overly athletic.

They'll hold their own against everyone as long as Collison's healthy.

love handled Cal's hardin and anderson fairly well and you wont find many better frontcourts out there.

1. Really good win for Arkansas. Maybe now they'll live up to the talent on their roster.

Pelphrey couldn't coach the USA team to the final 4

2. UCLA is awesome. I seriously doubt anyone else in the PAC 10 is going to sweep the Bay Area road swing.

They're great at every position I still don't know if they could take Memphis

3. I feel better and better about leaving USC out of my preseason top 25.

OJ Mayo, the "team destroyer"

4. Washington State just keeps winning. It's not artistic, just effective.

They're a solid basketball team, I originally had them in my top 5, but that's pushing it a bit, still, they're for real, they'll make it into the tournament

5. LSU is awful. I realize they've got injury issues, but they aren't even competitive.

John Brady, enough said

6. I'm not in the mood to go into all the details to explain the next statement, just trust me. Wyoming coach Heath Schroyer is the biggest douchebag in college basketball.

He had gradually progressed each year, this year, with the suspensions, he's struggled. With what he's done with the mess he inherited, I think he should be given 1 more year, up until now, he'd done a find job

8. Looks like Steve Alford and New Mexico may be a perfect marriage. The Lobos have almost matched last year's win total already.

9. Cincinnati isn't mature or talented enough yet to sustain prosperity.

I haven't saw much of Akron, but ISU looks like a solid group

I wouldn't really disagree, but mark it down. OJ Mayo will be the reason that the Trojans lose 1 significant game this season, meaning he'll either cost them a Pac 10 Tourney game or an NCAA Tournament Game. I don't like his shot selection, and as much as I like Tim Floyd I have to disagree with him over the selection of giving him a scholarship.

Does that cancel everything he has done for USC?

I've said since day 1 that it was a terrible decision. I would be willing to make a bet that tvolsfan has yet to watch a USC game this season or you would know that OJ Mayo isn't what they rely on, they have great balance, but they're very youthful
