im actually switching over this year. Buying Live soley due to the WNBA's inclusion. Not saying i wont still buy 2K also , but im anxious to play with Candace & Skylar. Sucks there wont be a franchise mode or career mode. Ill take Head to Head though , we got to start somewhere and this is a step in the right direction.

I remember and still have the EA Sports "March Madness" from 98, 99, 00, 01' that included the top 16 women's basketball teams. Of course Tennessee was always included :), and always won.

What would be cool if they included a 'dream' roster of past players that have retired.

Ugh! I wish 2K would have took this under their wing!

Seconded. While the facial capture was impressive, Live gameplay mechanics suck.

Still, this is light years better than EA's previous women's basketball efforts. They had a mode in their NCAA game during the Meeks threepeat years, and they used the same player model for everyone. Their efforts at accurately representing the players is promising...now if someone can only fix the game motion.

I remember playing that game when I was younger! I hate they didn't continue that aspect of the game! They even had an NCAA game where you could actually recruit year after year! That game was EVERYTHING to me :(

I agree about the gameplay motion! It's just not as exciting and fluid as 2K!

So lifelike slow dribbling, lack of vertical leap, falling down on D and hormonal crying after a loss? IN!

Unfortunately for EA, their games have not aged well. I guess it's kind of unfair of me to compare a current gen game to one that came out 20 years ago...but I could probably play the first NBA 2K game right now and not cringe. I can't say the same for EA's previous gen games.

EA clearly put a lot of effort into their WNBA player models. I have a hard time believing that 2K Sports would bother.

They wont bother this year but if it does well they would have no choice but to.

Remember when Madden was forced to purchased the rights to the NFL rosters because NFL 2K at the time was selling their popular game (Imo it was better all around than Madden is and to this day I would still prefer that game over Madden) for $19.99 (Madden was like $49.99

NBA Live in the past couple of years has been like $30 compared to $60 and you can bet (most if not all) the WNBA women and the young ladies in high school or middle school (who play or are interested in the sport) will more than likely want to purchase and play the game.

This could be very huge

Even at $30, Live is still a distant second to 2k because of the overall gap in quality of the game. I'm not sure the market for WNBA fans will be enough to make 2k rethink their strategy, particularly when some of those fans will still purchase 2k instead because as a basketball sim, it is a far, far better game.

What I am saying is there are a lot of Women who plays the men game (even those in the WNBA) now that many of them can play as themselves they are more than likely to switch games as well as their fans and hardcore fans of the Women's game.

2K has become like Madden where it puts the same game out every year because there is no competition but losing several fans could force them to change their minds

There is no market for this which is why it is part of an NBA video game in the first place.

If there was a market for it, they would have just made WNBA Live.

Of course, if there was a market for women's basketball in general, the WNBA wouldn't have to be subsidized by the NBA to begin with....but that's a whole different story.

Programming on the CW gets higher ratings than the WNBA Finals.

I wish we could get to a point where Women's basketball fan and Soccer fan could accept facts about these things.

The response to the announcement of the game (if you have access to Twitter and other social media) will show you that there is definitely a market for it and the reason it wasn't put out as a stand alone game is to gauge the interest of the game just like other establishment put out fillers to see if a product is a success before making it a permanent option.

Just like the Franchise mode in Madden was originally introduced in Madden (and ESPN 2K) and you have people who only preferred to play GM/Coach which lead to EA sports releases the game NFL Head Coach as a stand alone game. The series was short lived (2 releases) but it happened.

This is just the beginning and as a fan of the sport, league, and someone who has been waiting for this to happen since playing with Tennessee when they were on the March Madness games in the late 90s (early 2000's ) I am looking forward to it even if it remains as a game within a game!

I think that 2k does a great job year after year incrementally improving their game, both with new modes (which some people don't really care about) but mostly perfecting the motion, accuracy and flow of the game.

I stopped watching the WNBA this season, but back when I was a fan, I was also an NBA fan, and given the choice between a crappy game that happened to include WNBA players and a game that was fun to play but limited to NBA players, I would take the latter...and I would think I'm not alone in that regard.

It's an attempt by EA to add a differentiator to the Live franchise, but I don't think it will be a disruptor that causes 2k to follow suit. The WNBA fanbase is minute compared to the NBA, and gets even smaller when you're only considering those fans that also play video games.
