I live just outside Nashville, but in aesthetic terms we're about a million miles away from city life.

Lebanon, Gallatin, and Mt Juliet are small towns, each with its own unique personality. Lebanon is the farming town ... Gallatin has a small industry feel ... Mt Juliet is quirky and upbeat, a place for shopping. And I live smack dab in between the three of them, out in the country near a Corps of Engineers lake. There are cows across the street, a mule and some horses across the field behind us, and we used to have llamas and alpacas in that land in between. Turkeys trek across our yard at times, deer graze in the lot down the street when they're out of season, and hawks spend most days hunting for rabbits from overhead.

So it wouldn't surprise anyone when I announce I woke up to the sound of a damned male chicken.

Good news is, about halfway through his second cockadoodle do, he choked on something. Pretty sure he died. I'm not saying I was involved. I have alibis.

Go Vols!

Matthew 22:37Jesus declared, “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’e 38This is the first and greatest commandment.

39And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’f

40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

Nice! We live 20 miles west of downtown Nashville with chickens & rooster neighbors. Returning home this morning after 2 weeks on vacation. Better not hear any crowing today!

Two years ago we stayed at the Hilton Garden at Cedar Bluff. The whole SC band, cheer squad and support folks were staying there too. Including the guy that cares for the stupid live Rooster. That bird has its own utility van. Yep, you guessed it. They had it out just after 6am going nuts. People at the hotel were giving the front desk folks a fit. Pretty funny though.

Sounds idyllic. My home used to be quiet, with the occasional moo cow. Now, the farmland all sold, the sounds of bulldozers and earth graders and their backup beepers permeate the day. Traffic noise is obtrusive since the removal of acres of trees. Progress is digesting me. Other than that, I'm cool.

I woke up to the sound of my neighbor mowing his lawn...at 6:45am. Gotta be a sign in there somewhere.
