Very interesting reading about the newcomers in Fingers spring practice reports so far.
I’m wondering if we are going to stand pat especially on defense or if there are places that we still will seek help.

I consulted my cracked crystal ball and my dog. The ball said that defense players know we need and want DL and secondary depth who are difference makers. The dog assured me this is correct and that we will see two stout and experienced front line players, and a seasoned CB and safety transfers. The crystal ball slightly disagreed with the details. It thinks we only get one DL guy and two back end transfers.

Assuming we will have a couple of transfers, I can see us filling those gaps. other than that unless it is a real upgrade in talent I can see us not chasing anyone.

If anyone can chime in I’d assume bringing in a QB is highly unlikely? I get overly concerned with only having two good QBs. 😩

I have a hard time keeping up with the ever changing rules but is it still the case that SEC to SEC transfers aren't allowed post-spring? (That was the rule last year, last year if you were transferring from one SEC team to another you had to go into the portal by January). Of course, even if that is the case we can still get out of conference transfers after spring and I'm sure we will look at anyone in there CJH thinks can help our team.

I think we will definitely add some players when the portal opens up in May. Defensively would love to see us add an edge rusher and a safety or corner. Offensively, I could see us adding a WR and/or RB but only if they are very high level immediate impact players as we are in decent shape at those positions. Could see us adding a QB as well so we have 3 scholarship QBs on the roster but this would likely be a grad transfer. Hard to get someone in the portal who knows they wouldn’t be coming here to start

I think a lot of it will depend on what we lose this spring. I’m sure most coaches want to have 85 guys and I’m sure we will lose 2 or 3 like most teams

I think the roster is in good shape right now. We might lose a couple players to the portal, but those would be more of depth players. That's typically who leaves after spring and you're not likely to find many impact players like you would in the fall after the season. If we add anyone, I see it being just depth moves.

Next time, just post your last sentence instead of trying to be cute

I think its more about who is available is there's two 5 stars battling at another school and one wins the battle in spring the other is still really good.

There could be a deal already done with a player or two just waiting until some schollys opens up after spring but a lot of the guys transferring after spring are guys who got beat out. I doubt Heupel is after many of those kinda guys.

I could see us adding a TE. Ethan Davis goes down today. If it’s serious then TE becomes an absolute portal need with only Castles and Warren.

Outside of that we are pretty strong at every position. I’ve heard DB but we have a ton of bodies there. No other position on D needs additions.

QB would be my only other consideration. Maybe a starter from a small conference that’s a graduate and looking to get into coaching.

Davis walked off the field. He is fine.

Vols have 5-6 TE's on the roster.

Those are just numbers,

Who can we depend on in SEC play?
Warren has been valuable but not dominant. Castles looks to be a welcomed addition.
Davis possibly reaggravated that same injured shoulder from High school.

Castles and Warren are gone after this season.

We need to get a transfer in May, and possibly another one in spring 2024.
Along with the true freshman for 2024.

After the spring game it looks like we need a punter. I still would like another CB but probably a pipe dream at this point to find a contributor. Perhaps our most important need on offense is another QB but that isn’t happening. Otherwise keeping Joe and Nico upright is critical so if they can find another solid OT than they should consider.

Let's get that uga DT that just entered the portal. He has a lot of years to develop. Garner could do wonders with him.
