Any insight on Woody Quinn's progress? I seem to recall he was to be something special. But over the season, nothing much was said about him.

I was wondering this as well...I know he was a converted volleyball player or something to that effect and had just recently started playing football. He was a project imo and Helm and Wolf will be competing for that job if I had to guess.

No, he was going to be a project and everyone knew it. Coaches took a flyer on him because of his athleticism. Had an injury that affected him in preseason camp and slowed his progress in learning how to play football. Once the season starts, coaches don't have the time in practice to teach someone football, they develop the guys that are going to be a part of the gameplan.

He has the chance to get better this off season and contribute.

When I saw this, I thought that he may have been asked to leave the program to make room for other recruits, like Christian Harris was.

Seems the transition from volleyball to college football to S.E.C. college football will either take a while or may not happen for him.

When a JUCO player or a player that was a transfer is recruited to a program, it is expected by the coaching staff that they become an immedite impact player, rather than ride the bench.

Charlie Garner, Dale Carter, Chris Mimms, Abrayo Franklin, C. Patterson, etc. NOT Larry Binion, Woody Quinn, etc.

Look for Alex Ellis to be in the mix at TE. A former walk on who had put himself in position for a lot of playing time if not a starter before being injured in the pre season last year.

Not having a chinstrap tight has nothing to do with a leg injury. What's your excuse for the rest of the guys that got hurt this season?

Uh....no. He's a former volleyball player trying to survive in the trenches in the SEC. That's a lot different than the bump, set, spike that he's used to. I'd be surprised if he made much noise. The coaches pointed out several times last year that he was not physical enough. I'm not counting him out. I just know it's a huge transition for him.

True that. Woody played his only football the 2012 season at Santa Anna College. Even though he was considered a superb athlete, stepping up to the SEC may be too much for him, ... or not. Once he's 100% from the injury and gets a full spring, summer S&C program, an fall behind him he just might show some stuff next season. Even if it's only as relief on the depth chart.

I don't anticipate him having any impact. I would love to be proven wrong, an athletic guy with that size would be a welcome addition to the passing game.

With Wolf and Helm coming in, he probably won't see the field much. Branisel was better than Quinn as a true Freshman who didn't even EE.

At least one of our two talented TE commits will play a LOT. Maybe both if Branisel doesn't bounce back from his injury quickly

Your way off from what I said. I purely meant that volleyball is a whole different ball game than D1 football so before u start bashing me get your facts straight my good buddy

I saw him this summer in the weight room and remember thinking he was a basketball player. He was tall but not very stout. Didn't realize who he was until I watched a video of practice later. Maybe if he had more time to develop he could be something special.

How come I don't see TEs at other Top programs that look like this "Project" ? Are we ahead of the curve ? Are we looking for the next "Jimmy Graham" ? Sheeez, just go get a TE !!!!

Woody has played very little football. he was a volley ball player. not really showed anything special as a football player, just kind of athletic.

problem UT found is he needs to be tougher and much more physical
