What does 'irony' mean?

Any examples of 'irony' in action?

My well water growing up was really irony. I just thought all my clothes were dyed orange because we were big Vol fans.

I don't like it when my shirts are too wrinkly, so I take them to the cleaners to get that irony look.

The following seems beyond ironic, is there another word for this?

WORLD Magazine | Today's News, Christian Views

President Barack Obama accepted an award for making the government more open and transparent - presented to him behind closed doors with no media coverage or public access allowed.
--------------

.... the meeting hadn't even been listed on Obama's public schedule, so there was no way for anyone to know about it.

At a minimum I would say it's obdurately ironic.
