So declares the United Nations.
(wonder if this patterned after the old "geroi sovieskaya soyuza" medal?) :ermm:
LA PAZ The president of the United Nations General Assembly, Rev. Miguel DEscoto Brockmann, on Saturday declared Bolivian President Evo Morales as World Hero of Mother Earth in a ceremony at the presidential palace in this capital.
DEscoto was elected president of the 63rd session of the UN General Assembly on June 4, 2008, and was Nigaraguan foreign minister during the first Sandinista government from 1979 to 1990.
Previous UN honorees:
"World hero of solidarity" - Fidel Castro
World Hero of Social Justice. - Julius Nyerere
The first 'Earth day" was on Vladimir Lenin's 100th birthday. In 1955, then Soviet Premier, Nikita Krushchev ordered April 22nd be designated a day to celebrate Communism. In 1970, it was chosen to be Earth Day by Gaylord Nelson, one of the founders of the event.
Nyerere was the first president of Tanzania and a diciple of Mao Tse Tung.
Nyerere's system failed to boost agricultural output and at the end of the forced collectivization program, Tanzania had gone from the largest exporter of agricultural products in Africa to the largest importer of agricultural products in Africa.
Same thing has happened to Zimbabwe and is now happening to South Africa, oh the joys of socialist systems.
Nyerere's pan-African movement has caused untold strife, death and suffering and his legacy continues to this day. He assisted Mugabe in his rise to power and refuge to the communist ANC which now rules (or more accurately misrules) South Africa.
We all know (or should know) Castro was a diciple of Josef Stalin and that when Fidel came to power he took Cuba in short order from being by far the wealthiest of Latin American countries to one of the poorest.
No doubt Barry will soon be getting some UN hero award, any suggestions??
