it's ga/fl....who cares?

seriously though...they can say what they want, but it will always be labeled that, and as long as they play it at Neutral site, the alcohol will always be flowing...if they want to control it, go to a regular sec home/away alternate year schedule like the rest of us do, and they can police the alcohol on campus like they do everywhere else.

I could care less about their overhyped football game and what they call it.

Policing alcohol on campus is like finding a Shrilankan Waldo in Shrilanka.

Yep, it's just window dressing and nothing will change except the title. You will still be forced to watch the 300 beer commercials on TV.

Guys, I have to tell you, if you have never been to this game, you ought to get to it at least once in your lifetime. UT's SEC hopes are often tied to the outcome of this game. However, I do think the moniker is unfair to LSU fans. They should have dibs on the title for every home game.

I wish we had something big like that. I know every UT home game (or at least most of them) is a spectacle. But I just wish we had one game a year that's huge and has something like this cocktail party attached to it.
I guess what I mean is I feel like we don't have a true rival. I can't think of any team that would call us there biggest rival. Alabama has Auburn, Florida has FSU, Georgia has Georgia Tech, USC has Clemson. I'm not even going to consider Kentucky or Vandy as a rival.
I'm probabaly just talking out of my a** but I just wish we had something like the cocktail party. With all of the tradition and success of UT football you would think we would have built something like that over the years.

I think most of us outsiders would consider Vanderbilt to be your rival based on being in-state. Same reason that FSU is Florida's, Georgia's is Georgia Tech, and USC is Clemson's. It is true that your rivalry has not been as competitive as the others, but that is not the only measure and the main one is bragging rights to your high school buddies when you see them and that means in-state counts.

Not enough high school talent in ole Tennessee for the braggin rights among buddies thing to hold true up here, but I take your point.

Actually if Bama/Tennessee were a neutral site game, it would carry some of the extra cache' that Thunder was writing about..(UA/UT is plenty big already, don't get me wrong folks).

I completely agree...a rivalry is based on competition...for years it was bama, but they have auburn, Florida has georgia...etc. For me it's florida...as long as we beat florida i'm happy.

When everybody knows that the 3rd Sat in Oct means UT vs Al I'd say that is a bigtime rivalry.

Vandy stopped being a big rivalry about 20 yrs ago, Cutler brought back a twinge of it but he's gone now.

Has anyone been to one of the Vandy-UT games at the Colliseum? I have not so I'm not sure about beer sales at that game. I imagine Vandy will have to loose a few years in a row before they consider doing that again. The neutral site definitely has a lot to do with the GA-FL atmoshpere. I have been to Jax for GA-FL when I did not even have a ticket to the game. It is a fun football celebration.

I read an article regarding renaming the Cocktail Party.

Stupid, stupid, stupid!

I haven't had a drink in a very long, long time. As Stonewall Jackson once said about tobacco, "I find I like it too much."

That said; political correctness is reaching epidemic proportions in this country. The Beer Barrel, now the Cocktail Party.

This will have zero effect. It won't curb one single solitary drink, not a single shot less will be poured.

I'm so sick of PC Bull crap. Why doesn't the Georgia President do something serious, something worthwhile, like checking to see if his basketball players are taking courses in, what was it, basket weaving.

This is just pathetic.

Wow. The Ancient One taking a shot at an authority figure. I never thought I'd see the day. Aren't university presidents the omnipotent intellectuals who help craft the NCAA rules you hold so dear? Are you actually saying a person in a position of power can make a mistake?

We do, it's called The Third Saturday In October, even though it doesn't always fit the calendar these days.

The Third Saturday In October has determined more SEC championships than any other single game in the history of the conference.

Florida/Georgia may be getting some spin now, but it won't last long.

UT/BAMA will always be the big game in the SEC. Bama will be back and so will we.
