Worst box score ever?

I remember coaching an intramural game in 8th grade of the girls in my class. We played a class that had almost all basketball players and my team had none we only scored four points in the first half 2 of which were free throws. I was heckled endlessly because of that first half. The final score was 47-17. I got redemption my senior year coaching my class powderpuff team to victory.

I was a 6'1/250 pound post and got pulled anytime I shot outside 15 feet. I'm 100% confident I could have shot better than 1-33 in that game from 3.

Not even close. For those of you too young to remember, Tennessee beat Temple in the 1973 Volunteer Classic, 11-6. This was in the pre-shot clock era. Temple's coach refused to run with Tennessee and Ray Mears refused to budge from his zone defense. Temple simply held the ball for 32 of the 40 minutes of play. See http://www.govolsxtra.com/news/2008/dec/12/basketball-vols-beat-temple-11-6-1973/ and Strange: Temple set stage for shot clock » GoVolsXtra.

Yes, it remains the lowest scoring game in college basketball history.

I can't imagine watching that game.

It is simply amazing how many new NCAA rules have been created that involved games with Tennessee athletic teams.

According to the article by Mike Strange, Ray Mears used the outcome of this game to lobby for a shot clock, but it wasn't implemented until 12 years later. I suppose you could call that the NCAA's personal version of the four corners delay offense.

I'm pretty sure that 5 random fans from the audience--women and children included--could probably have scored at least 4 points in 20 minutes of play.
