Look at these numbers, and then listen to this interview. Hard not to feel really bad for Jarnell...

Jarnell was 6-7 from the field at the 17 minute mark in the second half, then...

@VinceSports: Re-watched. Number of times #Vols passed to @JarnellStokes in the post in final 16:40 vs Mizzou..once! None last 11:41”

Stokes got 1 pass in the post in the final 17 minutes, after going 6/7 from the field and their entire frontline being in foul trouble?

Especially awful considering 4 of Missouri's 5 bigs were playing with 4 fouls for most of that stretch.

Puzzling!
Couple of other things too.
One: having the guy with the shortest arms on the team inbounding the ball there at the end.
Head scratcher.

Man that was tough. Stokes wouldn't blame anyone but he knew the problems. Most telling remarks were his last ones where he says we have to get get ready for Georgia, "they have a good coach and point guard." If you read between the lines......

My thought too...sounds like he's saying, "we have a $hitty coach and $hitty PG".

Maymon and McRae at least got a taste of NCAA tourney. It's a shame that Stokes apparently will get shut out.

Give Stokes even a half-decent coach and convince him to stay for his senior year (which he should, anyway), and he sees the tournament next year. There's enough coming back and coming in to be a top 3 team in the SEC.

One of the reasons I came to the BB forum to see what was going on...ten days, two weeks ago I was waiting to pick up my kid up at school and I heard an interview with Stokes and he said "People used to love me..."

I'm sure he followed that up with something, but I was to stunned to listen. He's got the high BB IQ, and he'd made some statements about Thompson actually looking for him, shortly Barton was coming off the bench.

Feel bad for him, all of them, him especially.

I've stopped criticizing Martin the past couple of weeks because it was just like beating a dead horse, and I just didn't feel like it was necessary. But, after this game, how can anyone not be furious. I will always support the Vols, but I just wish the Martin era was over already.

Tennessee played the 1-3-1 Zone against Florida from the 9:45 mark to about the 2:45 mark. Florida did not score a basket against it and Tennessee cut the lead from 7 to 1. Florida made two free throws and hit a three on transition and Tennessee went back to man-to-man and Wilbekin banked in a three against it to win. It is extremely difficult to get off that shot on the exterior against the 1-3-1. Tennessee put away the game at Alabama in the second half running it 17 minutes. Against Vandy they use it two minutes and got beat 36 to 24 in the paint. At Missouri, it never showed even though they were driving into the middle at will and scoring or getting fouled. The announcers were even saying here is the perfect time to use the 1-3-1. I have not seen a team yet get the corner 3 from it. I honestly believe that Martin hates any type of zone so much and its not what he wants to be shown as as a coach. He wants to be known as the guru of man-to-man defense to the point he loses games because of it. Can you even imagine what the record would be now if they had been throwing it out there all year? Instead Missouri just knocked them onto the bubble and took their 11 seed!

He sounds so deflated. Also, that part where he said "I mean I don't want to point any fingers. I don't know." was the high (low) point of it all.

It's pretty bad. I really don't have words. I don't see how anyone can defend this staff anymore.

Big's in foul trouble, pound it inside, pound it inside, pound it inside..... Do I have a point to this? Yeah, POUND THE BALL INSIDE! Tired of shrugging my shoulders and shaking my head.
Just so darn confused...

Dude, enjoy him (Stokes) this season cause he's not coming back and I couldn't blame him. And I doubt if he did return this would be a top 3 SEC team. CCM's recruits have yet to prove they can step in and be major contributors particularly Freshman. Stokes being the only acception.

I think McRae played to see how many points he could get and team ball was left out. Tough. We have no real playmakers on this team. A good solid team but no one tough enough to carry us at crunch time.
