Gator fans first and foremost answer, but others feel free to chime in as well.... Why is Danny Kanell such a dickhead? He is the most miserable pain in the ass ever. His SEC envy is pathetic.

Because Kanell is Roy Williams’ nephew.

@yankee vol is right. At FSU Bowden said “I’ll play anyone anywhere”..... and did.

1981 FSU played @Ohio Stare, @lsu, @NotreDame, @Nebraska, and @Pitt in consecutive weeks.

I love the underdog UCF......but if you want the respect, talk to Bobby!
Bowden was playing a little different game then too. He wanted to play anyone anywhere because in order to win a title in those days you just had to play people and make that resume look good. FSU was also independent, which meant no conference title game - they didn't even have those in the 80s yet anyway.

Today, UCF plays in a (mediocre at best) conference with a conference title game, and there's a playoff where any of the 4 teams that make it have a shot at winning it all. They think that since they are the undefeated champs of this conference, they should be allowed in the bracket. They're also really proud of that win over Auburn last year, maybe a little too proud. I don't remember even them getting on this "we're national champs" train until after they beat Auburn. The threshold you have to surpass in order to have a chance to win a title is lower than it used to be.

UCF AD Danny White to Gators AD Scott Stricklin: Help put an end to playoff monopoly, unfair scheduling | Commentary

“You mention not playing a neutral site contest versus a non-autonomy 5 opponent, but a UF vs. UCF game held in our state would certainly be a sellout, which would be a positive for both of us financially,” White wrote. “I think that our team has shown on the field that we are far from a typical ‘non-autonomy 5’ opponent.”

Yes, a neutral site game between Florida and UCF somewhere in the state of Florida "would certainly be a sellout." But then, so would any other game in the state of Florida featuring the University of Florida.

it would be an embarrassment.

Just like if they were in the playoff this year. Giving up 30 twice to Memphis and people want to see them taken to the woodshed by Clemson or Bama?
