Tennessee beat Kentucky and Vanderbilt and take home the SEC Tournament Championship but then lose in the second round of the NCAA tourney or Lose to Ole Miss in the SEC tournament but make it to the Final Four?

I think it is a tough choice...it would be a great feeling to win the SEC tourney, but I think getting to the Final Four may have a greater effect on our programs future.

Any time you can get to the Final Four thats got to help your program. Bruce Pearl could sell that for awhile to kids.

the trophy with NCAA on it carries more weight than an SEC one. I don't think it's a difficult choice at all

I could handle losing to LSU by 30 if it meant making the Final Four (this would be after the fact of course, if we lost to LSU by 30 I would be fit to be tied for the remainder of the weekend, or if we lose to LSU at all for that matter).

How on Earth is this a tough choice?

It might have been a tougher choice had you said, "elite eight."
That would be tougher, deciding whether you'd rather win the SECT, or make it past the sweet 16 for the first time.

This is a stupid question? Of course everyone would rather win the conference tournament, rather than making a final four---get real.

I think it's a tough choice because winning the SEC tournament would be a great accomplishment for this team. We haven't done it in over a quarter century and it would actually be a tournament championship not just a regional championship.

But I almost made the poll just to get to the Elite 8 but I decided to go Final Four.

I agree that the Final Four would be bigger, but the SEC would actually equal any kind of Championship.

Final Four. It would be a much tougher choice between SEC Tourney Championship, or getting to the Elite 8. There I may have gone with SEC tourney Championship, and NCAA second round loss.

1) and winning a Regional Championship and playing in the Final 4 wouldn't be a great accomplishment for this team?

2) When is the last time we have won an NCAA Regional Championship?

Even if the choice was between an SEC championship and the Elite 8, this is an obvious choice. Bruce Pearl and our program will be measured by progress. There is an expectation by everyone that to be an elite program you have to progress in the NCAA tournament. We have never been to the Elite 8 although we were close twice. While it's great to finish 11-5 and it would be great to win the SEC tournament, it pails in comparison to making it to the Elite 8.

Easy call

True and I agree on both accounts, I guess I am just forgetting how big of a deal it is to be in the Final Four.

I just feel like you forget who was in the final four a few years down the road and just remember the Champ and if we won the Conference tournament we would be the undisputed winner of a tournament for the first time in a looooooong time.

But anyway I think overall that a Final Four is the correct responce just that it isn't quite as obvious of a choice.:hi:

another thing to look at is the exposure a FF gets you. An SEC champ gets a few highlights on Sportscenter and a nice writeup in the KNS. A FF gets you plastered on every radio/TV show for a few days because there are only 2 games being discussed. Pearl and players are being interviewed every day and those HS kids are watching.

This too.

Before talking about the final four, get to the elite 8 first. ESPN always makes the point (as does everyone else) that as good as the vols have been in the past few years, they have never made it to the elite 8. Success is measued in advancement in the tourney, not in conference championships. Calipari has already made it clear he could care less about anything his team accomplishes in the sec. He has only one goal in his sights. That being said, if he doesn't want a sec conference championship that bad, we'll take it.

I'd question anyone's basketball IQ who would seriously take an SECT championship over a Final Four appearance. And especially for UT I'd question anyone who'd take it over an Elite Eight appearance. I don't see how they are even close.

I wouldn't mind winning the SECT, but let's face it, it's not like it's really that important unless you need the thing to even make the NCAAT. It's not as important as winning the regular season championship.
