Probably never. Talent has gone up ex potentially in the last 5 years. We finally have the instate talent to sustain the program against the strength of other programs.

Georgia, Alabama, Louisiana, Florida and Texas still have more talent, top to bottom, but you could argue that the TN talent is equal or better than that of the other SEC school states

This has been a historical weakness for us

Exponentially*

And yeah a lot of top end talent in state and a couple wideouts in our backyard. However, a few of those guys are from West Tenn/Memphis so keeping them in state will be no easy task. We won't get them all but we need to get everything we can from Bristol to Knoxville to Nashville.

Is that Jarrell's brother on that list? If so CRB should team up with Butch. No reason he shouldn't be a vol.

*ex post facto

There has been a demographic shift in Tennessee over the past 10-15 years. More people have been moving and are moving here from other areas. Low cost of living and advantageous tax structure is a huge driving force behind it.

I also think the Titans have a factor in the growth in middle TN. The team moved here 16 years ago. When these kids were 5 and getting into sports the Titans were legit.

The fact that Nashville is one of the fastest growing cities in the US is the reason.

As always when we recruit the Memphis area...sadly...we must proceed very very slowly with most of these kids, get to know them and their families as we would with any recruit and our offer list will usually be limited to two or three of this area....Just a fact of life and throw in the 400 mile distance and the hurdle can be high....I like what CRB had to say about spending too much time in the Memphis area....Atlanta is just down the road and its loaded with talent....and generally speaking we've had much more success recruiting the kids in the Atlanta area (with some exceptions of course)....Getting Drew Richmond this year was a major deal and those are the type of kids we need to invest our time in the Memphis area...and I agree that Tennessee is finally becoming consistent year in and out with quality recruits...especially in the mid-state area....

Jacoby Stevens is one on that list that excites me. During that epic Oakland/Blackman game to begin last year, he was one who really impressed.

Jeez. If ever there was a year to lock down the state. I know it isn't likely, but jeez. Getting the guys on this list would all-but guarantee a top 3 class.

I just watched his HUDL film. Good lord. The only thing he doesn't catch is a blocked kick. And give him time, he was only a Sophomore. :)

And Tee Higgins is like a Preston Williams clone.

Get both of these kids and we can shut down this stupid WRU debate for another decade.

Read where his family's from Louisiana and he's grown up an LSU fan. Hoping rumors of Les Miles out of Baton Rouge this year or next could help here....

Also, looking at Trey Smith from Jackson makes me want to debunk a myth I've seen on this board at times:

West Tennessee is not Anti-Vol. I'm from an area just south of Jackson, and looking at my login you can prolly figure where I went to college. Everywhere outside of Memphis was highly Vol in my day, and Orange proudly flew everywhere. Memphis also has a lot of Orange, but was intermixed with a lot of Bama, Ole Miss, and Tiger High colors. I'm sure this last decade has brought a lot of bandwagonners to West Tennessee as it has Middle Tennessee as well, but when the winning ways return, expect the flags to fly.

Another reason for having a difficult time recruiting the Memphis area is you have other SEC schools like Ole Miss, Bama, Ark and Vandy embedded there.
