Raymond Williams, the running back who committed to West Virginia in February, has been charged with murder and aggravated robbery by Cleveland prosecutors in connection with the murder of teammate Lorenzo Hunter during a botched robbery April 16.
Williams, Ohio's Mr. Football last fall, faces at least 15 years to life in prison if convicted.
West Virginia said it would withdraw its scholarship offer to the Benedictine High School standout pending the outcome of the legal proceedings.
"This is a very tragic situation," West Virginia coach Rich Rodriguez said in a statement. "We share in the shock of the recent tragedy with his teammates, coaches and school officials in Cleveland."
