When I was on my trip two weekends ago, two separate Big East assistants told me they wouldn't be heartbroken about losing early in the Big East tournament. Three meatgrinders in three nights the week before the Big Dance isn't the most appealing prospect in the world. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if the players adopted a similar mindset.

I think that's a prevalent view across the really high seeds, even those safe for 1s.

We don't want to screw around and get a 10 seed and play someone like WV first night out.

That's a poisonous attitude to adopt at this time of year. That can spiral out of control rapidly. Sometimes it's humorous to watch the looks on the players faces of high seeds that lose in the tournament because they feel they're entitled to playing in the Final Four. By the way, congratulations Huggs for having your guys ready to play!!!!

I don't think West Virginia is going to be a 7. Hell, they beat UCONN and Louisville and they're a 3 or 4.

I disagree. A veteran team knows what the big prize is. Why burn up your legs on the prelim when the main event is a week away? Unless you can really boost your seeding, losing early isn't the end of the world.

My point about us in the SEC tourney last year.

Not the end of the world but I guess you didn't understand the rest of my post. Losing begets losing is all I'm saying. Not to mention it gives your opponents in the tournament a feeling they can beat you and play that way.

That was a whoopin'. Plain and simple. It was obvious who wanted it more, on every rebound and every loose ball. Pitt already has a #1 seed locked up, and now they get a break.

Pitt has been in the Big East tournament final something like 6 of the last 7 years. They've never advanced past the Sweet 16. I don't think that's coincidence.
