And making a mockery of it at that.:birgits_giggle:

Called the "Mountaineer Mantrip" , which refers to the long walk coal miners take down into the mines before their shift.

They will also be copying a Clemson tradition, by mounting a very large chunk of coal at the entrance of the stadium, that each player will touch before entering.

To cap off the redneck extravaganza, the band 'Taylor Made' will be performing right before the players come through. Known mostly for this West Virginia hit:

I lol'd. The players will enjoy the experience, and the "______ Walk" is all but an original concept, but the chunk of coal? Come on.. Howard's Rock is the only thing Clemson has that's originally theirs.

The sheer stupidity of that state never ceases to amaze. Last year a WVU study found that coal production cost the state nearly $90 million in revenue, and the less than 2% of the state being employed by the industry is offset by an overwhelming increase in premature deaths.

I see nothing wrong with it. It's apart of the west Virginia culture and the states history. People made fun of the Iowa/ Iowa state trophy because it was honoring their agricultural heritage. I don't understand why people on here look down on "country culture".

Not making fun of their country heritage at all. Coal and country aren't synonymous. It is their non-progressive way of thinking that has me rolling on the floor.

A study, by their school, has indicated that coal is harming their state financially, environmentally, and socially. We've known this for years, as it is one of the poorest, most polluted, and depressed states in the nation.

They then celebrate this by having a 'Friends of Coal Bowl', doing a Mountaineer Mantrip, and promoting a product using the uneducated people of WV as their stronghold fanbase.

That song sucks. They should just play Coal Miner's Daughter.

I see. Those uneducated are a strong people and won't change for nothing, like their scotch/ Irish roots deep inside them. But I do see your point of coal being harmful and has claimed MANY MANY lives. But what other iduststry is gonna go to WV for people to have jobs. Mining is all those people know.

That's a good point Griz, but if you look at the hard statistics coal only employs ~1.4% of the state. From the mining and transportation to the maintenance and administrative positions. However, the negatives of the business effect the whole 1.8 million within the state.

Anyway, my gripe wasn't against West Virginians really, just the ones using propaganda to exploit those who aren't informed. This Friends of Coal Bowl runs a series of commercials statewide that does just that, and now WVU is implementing it into tradition.

The "walk" doesn't really bother me, as many schools around the country do one. However, they could be a little more original with the 350 pound piece of coal.
