Wife and I made a quick trip to Nawleans this week and spent a day in the National WWII museum. Very impressed by the layout and presentations. Many volunteers there to help guide you through it. It was a very thought provoking experience and found it enlightening. Any other Vol fans experienced it. I would strongly recommend it.

I've been 2 or 3 times. My son lives closer to it and likes to go around Veterans' Day every year, when they are having special programs and bringing more older vets than are usually there.

I went with my son a couple of years ago. There was a point where I couldn't stomach the death and destruction anymore. I think my breaking point came after some holocaust exhibits and another exhibit with a picture of an Asian baby sitting alone and crying. I was overwhelmed. I was unprepared for the emotions that welled up inside of me.
It is a really good museum, though. Very well done.

It did remind me of the same feelings I had while watching Saving Private Ryan. I had to take a respite during the Normandy landing scene before I could finish watching. Very intense, just imagine being there in person.

I cannot imagine it. And I don't mean that I am choosing to not imagine it, I mean that I am incapable of imagining it. Running forward into fortified gunfire and bombs from heavily protected pill boxes is incomprehensible to me. You can't go sideways into the ocean and parallel to the beach. You can't go backwards and drown in the ocean. The only (small) chance of survival is to move forward as quickly as possible despite every survival instinct telling your body to get away from imminent danger. Unfathomable.

In the spirit of the thread I'd like to make an addition. The Mighty Eighth near Savannah, GA is a fantastic museum. Just off I-95.

Other WWII museums would be nice to know about as well. Great thread.

a fantastic museum. Went 2 yrs ago. I remember when buying on line you could buy a 2 day pass and thought "its a museum - why do I want a 2 day pass?". Did the tour and realized why you need a 2 day pass.

We purchased tickets to the two presentations as well. Second day was included in the price. Unfortunately due to the shortness of the trip the second day was spent doing other stuff.
