I find this quite funny. Apparently Brian Butler had a change of heart after the NY Times article...

Potential Players website primary objective is to help bring exposure to Kansas(Midwest) Athletes. This is accomplished by providing profile information on college bound student-athletes, as well as by giving news updates on the top players in the area.

At this time we've determined that offering subscriptions is not the best approach to help us achieve our initial objective. Going forward, we've decided there will be NO CHARGE to access information from potentialplayers.com. We will continue to research different avenues that will make it more convenient to navigate this site, while attaining our company initiatives.

We look forward to you visiting potentialplayer.com to access information on the Midwest's top players.

Maybe I missed a more recent NY Times article, but the one I remember was published about 3 weeks ago....so this post would make sense in that regard.

The funniest part of this whole situation is that he charged people for like...6 pages of "Coming Soon!"
