Since defenses facing our offense have increasingly gone to playing a three high safety or a cover 3 type look, teams have really made it much more difficult for the receivers to get behind the secondary. So, why hasn’t the staff adjusted to this by taking advantage of that with formation?
When we get this look one such formation I believe would be effective is lining up in one of our typical formations and motioning the TE or slot from one side into a trips formation on the other with all three receivers at or outside the numbers. Would put a lot of stress on the defensive secondary to cover all that space when two DBs who are responsible for deep coverage on the other two thirds of the field opposite the trips are virtually taken out of the play. From there there’s a lot you can do from the play calling perspective. We are getting this look a lot defensively and haven’t taken advantage of it.
