With 2020 being a free year, 2021 he sat out, does he have 2 more years left after 2023 if he chooses to ?

Trying to see who all could come back in 2024 .. Bru, Squirrel, Donte all starters could be back

2019 red shirt
2020 free year
2021 sat out
2022 played
2023 played

I'm thinking he actually does have 2 years left. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Even though he sat out, it still counts towards eligibility. The NCAA rules say you have 5 years to play 4. Once the eligibility clock starts, they’re only a few things that can pause. One of the things is joining the military, but it restarts the 1st semester you’re eligible to return. The “eligibility clock” starts as soon as you enroll into school. Looks like he will have 1 year after this year if he chooses to use it.IMG_8296.jpeg

I think Covid made it 6 years to play 5 for the affected players, right?

The official preseason yearbook says this is his last year.

There's no doubt he's the highest rated pro prospect we have at WR and it's not even close. We would be lucky to have him for next year but I would be surprised if he doesn't go pro. I don't think he would really have anything to gain by coming back for another year. Thorton would be lucky to get an invite to camp at this point. Pretty disappointed with his play this year but still lots of time left in the season.

He has one. Sitting out because the university suspends you doesn’t count as another redshirt. This is all moot imo. He goes draft after the season.

I don't think at this point he's done enough for that. He needs to kick it up in the back 2/3 of the season.

There are no requirements for what THEY THINK is “enough”. That’s what I’m basing my opinion upon.

When will Donte step up and break out? Bru is probably our best receiver this year.
How long was he with Oregon? And they never featured him? Did he even start for them? There's a reason he was in the portal. Doesn't mean we can't coach him up and the light comes on like it did with Hyatt, but so far, I think I'd look at some of my young recruited WR's if he continues to be a non factor. Like Kongbo...looks like tarzan, plays like jane.

With QB who likes to throw the high heat, Squirrel's size is really a negative.

So far he looked much better last year at Oregon. As a sophomore he had 17 catches for 366 yards with an eye popping 21.5 YPC.

He has 89 yards this season with a YPC of 12

With Oregon right around the top 10 in passing yards and the Vols at 68th, he may have made a mistake in transferring here.

HIm coming out from UT after JJ won't hurt his stock at all. But he still hasn't really had the Moments. He has had some JJ like moments but they were JJ lite. I think its less about ability than opportunity. JJ was the man when he was Here, up till now Bru has been the second option. I think that as for now he is definitely the best pro prospect but I think If Thornton plays another year his skill set could vault him.
