BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — Rangers suspended their attempts on Wednesday to recover the body of a man who wandered from a designated boardwalk and fell into an acidic hot spring at Yellowstone National Park, another in a string of incidents raising concerns over visitor behavior.

"They were able to recover a few personal effects," park spokeswoman Charissa Reid said. "There were no remains left to recover."...

.....The death occurred in one of the hottest and most volatile areas of Yellowstone. It follows high-profile incidents at the rugged park in which tourists got too close to wildlife or went off designated pathways onto unique landmarks, sometimes leading to injuries.

That sounds like an unimaginably painful way to die.

Acidic springs? I've never heard of such a thing.

Sounds like something you'd hear about in a murder mystery: the killer getting rid of the body in a hot acid spring.

😁

I could see that on criminal minds.

Hmmm. Sounds like he was over-cooked. Had that happen to some beef that went too long in the crock pot.

With the amount of idiotic things people do at Yellowstone, I'm surprised more people aren't killed tbh

The guy and his sister were both complete morons. They were 250 feet away from the boardwalks. The ground in the thermal areas is crusty and brittle. Boiling water, steam and toxic gas percolate out of literally millions of tiny holes and fissures. They warn, beg and plead, and scream at you from the moment you pull up to the entrance, not to leave the walkways when in the thermal areas. There is no way in hell you could have talked me into walking off path across the Norris basin...pure freakin monumental stupidity.

No kidding. Boiling water and a ph of around 3. If I remember correctly, there's all kinds of signs and warnings about people who've died thinking the springs were like a hot tub.

Even worse, it was 225 YARDS from the path. It's a wonder they even got that far.

The original news story I read said that they were 250 ft, then I saw all the others reporting 250 yes. It's amazing they made it that far. My wife was freaking out when we walked the Norris basin because the ground was bubbling and steaming so much under and all around the boardwalks. She asked me if there was a chance a new geyser could just explode out of the ground like Excelsior Geyser. I told her, Honey we are walking in the crater of probably the largest super volcano on Earth, and it is alive and well, so yeah anything could happen. :)
