what kind of a win was it?

Was it a lucky win,:whistling:
an ugly win
or a wake-up win? :salute:

We should have the answer after the game this coming Saturday.

What do you think?

It wasn't a "lucky" win in my book. Take your hats off to AF, they came in to Neyland and was nearly perfect with thier offensive play making. Like I said in another thread, any team in the country would struggle when a team runs the flexbone triple otion that perfect. Our D will be back and ready against the Gators.

Ok hear is the deal. O - looked awsome AF could not stop us all night. Ainge looked great(all but int). He was finding his 2nd, 3rd, WR. D- Well look we have not given up but TWO 100yrd rushers since Sept. 2004(UNLV-Dorsey-121 AU Ronnie Brown-100). We know how to play D just not the flexbone. Be happy were 2-0 going into Florida game with a O thats rolling and a D that faced a flexbone that we face once every 30yrs. GO VOLS!!

yeah, we will be going from facing a team that runs the flexbone triple option perfectly, to playing a team that runs the spread option about as well as my high school and just happens to have a talented enough quarterback to bail them out most of the time. the florida game will probably be fairly close as always, but that is assuming our offense doesnt dominate again.

Definitely an ugly win but I'll take it.

Defense certainly should be focused this week during their preparation, that could be one positive take away from yesterday's run defense debacle.

Florida will MAYBE run 5 spread option plays.

I don't consider it lucky because the offense threw the ball at will. It was definitely ugly. However one more thought is this: UT had no look at the AF offense THIS SEASON. I expected those guys to wear down but UT had no such luck. Had AF played last weak and given the Vols more tape, perhaps they would have been more prepared.

Last thought: this offense really picks on D-end. The Vols need stability in this area. It may be unreasonable to expect Fisher to come in and contribute immediately. I would love to have a week off before the Fla game, but because UT does not, they will have to find an answer to depth issues at DE.

The Florida game will be close like the PSU-ND game was close...

So who, in your world, will blow who out?

I am curious as well. I don't think Florida is capable of blowing us out. Are we capable? I think we are if this high-octane offense keeps showing up and our defense comes to play.

There won't be a blowout, though. It is going to be a close and exciting game as usual

I've watched AF play a lot on satellite and that conference they play in is an offense oriented league. Actually a lot of fun to watch. Those teams see AF's offense year after year and do a decent job defensing it, because they prepare for it. UT probably didn't spend a lot of time getting ready for the option because they won't see it again, and probably thought only out-muscling AF would get it done . And face it, AF was ready to play. The recipe for a real struggle, which it turned out to be.

On the other hand, UT points to the Florida game because it has been the one that made or broke their championship plans for years now. I guarantee, UT has been preparing for Florida all along and should be ready. I really feel good about this one for a change and I look for the Vols to take it in a close game...3 points or less.

I agree with you on the un-preparedness. I watched the whole AF game, and we were always one man short in the box...their QB just gave it to the unblocked guy every time. I know Chavis had to have seen this, but he didn't do anything about it the entire game.

I'm glad we won, X. Mitchell's tackle was amazing, but we almost threw away all that we had won from Cal the previous week, and for what -- not wanting to show Florida anything on film defensively?

I agree with the "out-muscling" comment and wonder also about the preparation for Florida throughout the fall and the two weeks prior to the game. In other words, I wonder if we were practicing for Florida during the AF week?

Our coaching sucked and we were lucky to win. Florida will blow us out if we have the same performance next week. But, I think the Vols will surprise Florida and will by 21!

Defense and special teams got put back on its heals. Offense keeps playing and D and special teams play comes back up we win. If not, not.
