This one only adds 1/2 a trillion or so to the bill - no big whoop. You gotta pass it to see what's in it!

The $450 Billion Glitch: 3 Million Extra Middle-Class Americans Eligible for Medicaid Benefits - Avik Roy - The Apothecary - Forbes

Wow. Philip Klein points us to this AP story, in which Richard Foster, Chief Actuary of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, says that, due to a glitch in Obamacare, married couples of early retirees making around $64,000 a year will become eligible for Medicaid. According to Foster, as many as 3 million Americans will qualify for the benefit. It’s “a twist government number crunchers say they discovered only after the complex bill was signed.”

Interesting. Neither your post, nor the article you cite (which is in itself a citation to another article) acknowledges that in the original article is it clear that both Dems and GOPers are working to address it and to either roll back the expansion of the eligibility or allow states to block it in some other fashion.

Even the Senate Finance Committee people, who wrote the bill, say they are working to resolve the problem before that particular provision goes into effect ... in 2014.

Are you not aware of the fact that most bills amend existing law? There are very few laws that do not get revisited. This is not the least bit unusual.

Virtually every week something new is revealed that is an unintended consequence or mistake with this legislation. It is a trainwreck.

From the AP story:

Medicare chief actuary Richard Foster says the situation keeps him up at night.
"I don't generally comment on the pros or cons of policy, but that just doesn't make sense," Foster said during a question-and-answer session at a recent professional society meeting. It's almost like allowing middle-class people to qualify for food stamps, he suggested.
"This is a situation that got no attention at all," added Foster. "And even now, as I raise the issue with various policymakers, people are not rushing to say ... we need to do something about this."
Indeed, administration officials and senior Democratic lawmakers say it's not a loophole but the result of a well-meaning effort to simplify rules for deciding who will get help with insurance costs under the new health care law. Instead of a hodgepodge of rules, there will be one national policy.

A spokeswoman for the Senate Finance Committee, which wrote much of the health care law, said if the situation does become a problem there's plenty of time to fix it later.
"These changes don't take effect until 2014, so we have time to review all possible cases to ensure Medicaid meets its mission of serving only the neediest Americans," said Erin Shields.

Chief acctuary at CMMS says major issue - Dems say it was intended and if it becomes a problem will get around to fixing it later.

I thought denying there is a problem then fixing said problem is part and parcel of politics?

Lame move by the Obama admin, but I wouldn't expect anything different from anybody else.

I see this as one more (and there are plenty) indicator that this legislation is hopelessly. I don't care who was responsible for it.

Some of the gory details on the CLASS plan

CLASS Act | Americans just dodged an Obamacare bullet | The Daily Caller

According a report by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), unless workers’ employers opted out of the program, the federal government would have withheld up to $240 a month from their paychecks to pay for their participation in it.

Workers wouldn’t have had much choice in the matter. They would have been automatically enrolled, and the federal government would have deducted more than $2,800 a year from their paychecks. Before receiving any benefits, people would have needed to have paid into the program for five full years.

But wait, there's more!

The program would likely have put many private long-term care insurers out of business. It would have competed with private insurers, but with all the perks that federal ownership gives, such as being exempt from regulations put on private long-term care insurers.

And of course...

As with Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid, the long-term sustainability of the program was a fantasy from the beginning. To be sure, collecting five years’ worth of premiums before paying a single benefit would have resulted in an initial surplus. But after that, according to CMS, the program would have quickly devolved into an “insurance death spiral,” where the vast majority of participants would consume far more resources than they contributed.

We are screwed.

No one can say it better than Joe: "this is a big f'ing deal."

Yes Joe, screwing over the entire country by shoving down our throats one big piece of horrendous legislation that no lawmaker had read is a big f'ing deal.

I'm just confused how this will be used in the future. There's no way they trot out this CLASS thing without knowing it would get shot down. Add in the fact it was 40% of the savings from Obamacare and the whole thing is almost certain to fall. There's either way more to this plan or the Dems are dumber than I thought
