How do you start fixing our depth problems, how do you send out offers (before or after evaluating), and how do you plan for the future??

Just figured it would be fun to see some of the responses.

:hi:

I load up on OL and DT obviously. I know it doesn't help our recruiting rankings, but oh well. I think that's what Saban did at Alabama with his first full recruiting class if I'm not mistaken.

I don't know what he did, but they had more depth than we did on the lines.

I go old school..... run up the middle, to the left side and then right side of the line....bring in the world class punter and let her fly....pin em I say, and let the D win this thing.... 6-3

Kickers! I think we should get nothing but kickers in this upcoming class. That would make it easier to kick our opponent's @$$.

In his first full class at Bama in 2008, he signed 2 OL and 8 DL. In his second one, he signed 7 OL and 6 DL.

I like this. Granted, I hope we can score more than 6 points per, but I get your point. I would love to have a stingy defense again.

I assume that the Vols will be able to take 28 in the 2011 class. I'd probably go ahead and offer 10-12 2/3* linemen who I know will accept, just to get some bodies that I can throw in the trenches.

The hardest part would be convincing these recruits that I would be HC for their entire collegiate career, considering the last time they saw the power T someone else was wearing it. It is going to be a long road for Dooely and Co.

You know, all these Rivals rankings make sense in terms of how far along they are in the technique department, but you can teach technique to a OL. That being said, I think that after the camp circuit, you are going to see a BIG difference in rankings come mid-July.

I'd recruit a full starting lineup, taking the best players at each position, and do that for 4 years.

I don't see why other coaches don't do that.

At this point, we just can't act like we can do that though. We are going to have to take some kids who might now be so highly recruited and try and coach them up. Sucks, I know, but it's where we are right now.

Take 10 OL and 10 DL this year, suit up the top 6 on both sides and redshirt the rest. I am not even kidding.

I'm not opposed to this, but you have to be careful how many you bring in because of the 85 number and the fact we probably won't be able to count back any this year. I want to say that 27 is the number, but it will probably be 25-26 now.

Linemen. Everything feeds off of line play. There are a lot of guys out there who can run, throw, and catch, but very few big uglies who can dominate.

It sounds good theoretically, but so many variables change things every year such as injury, transfers, ineligibilty, lack if in state talent, etc. Therefore, every year is different from the next from a needs perspective. Actually, what you described sounds like a fantasy draft.

I would load up on "fresh" talent at the Hostess position.... :eek:lol:

I'm a bit surprised multiple people have responded to my earlier post like it was serious.

Is this because of the recent pick-ups?

OL and DL will get you competitive quicker. Being strong in these spots keep you in games where you may less talented elsewhere.

I did not mind the former staffs approach (at least the way it looked to me) it seemed like they took the best players they could get no matter the position. Which very well could have worked if he had been here longer. Can make a mess if it doesn't have time to play out either.
