You don't pay 9mil + salary for an unproven coach!

Dude, how is college ball NOT a professional sport? From multi million dollar facilities to video games and mutli billion dollar TV deals.... I mean you gotta be kidding with that remark?

I've argued for a long time that the NFL should be forced into creating farm leagues similar to MLB to help weed out players who just want to pursue a football career instead of an education. Seriously... an UGA fan asked this? Wow! Your boy Richt ain't exactly making chump change by the way.

Uh, dude, I work with athletic depts. Tell me which one makes multi-billion TV deals. "I mean, you have to be kidding with that remark?"

I agree about the minor leagues for NFL, have said it for years. College was invented as an institution for higher learning. The entire state of Alabama has reversed this trend and AU and Bama are football programs with colleges attached. And our boy Richt makes way too much compared to admins and profs. The author of this little ditty proposed $19 mil for Saban when UT really can't even afford the coach that you currently have.

Seriously! Those guys are worth 14mil for their first year of coaching?!!!!! See that makes my point. Gruden being a potential candidate will sour any other coach that comes in. The fan base would be decided once again with any of those names. A divided fan base is not worth spending 14 mil!

Yes, worth every penny of 14 mil to get rid of Dooley. I can guarantee you that Bama, Florida etc would pay the price. Saban's salary is three times Dooley's to begin with, so TN has saved at least 6 mil over the last three years by going with a cheap hire in the first place.

I say we throw the endowment at Bill Belichick. We win no problemo.

To some maybe, not the majority

What is the continued fixation on the high end of the buyout numbers?

Most of these coaches are young enough to not commit career suicide by not taking other jobs which would defer some of that buyout cost.

And frankly, they DON'T have to shell out big bucks for a proven coach.

Just finding someone that can run this program better than Dooley would be sufficient.

It really won't be as hard as some of you make it out to be.

Dooley's 5mil
Sunseri 1.2mil
new coach 5mil +

That is going to be a minimum of 11.2 mil to bring in a new coach next year.

None of these buyouts are a lump sum payment either you moron.

They are making the last installment on Fulmer's buyout in a few weeks.

Let me explain in terms you might better understand.

When you went to Aaaron's to "buy" your new 42 inch plasma because that's all the credit they would extend you, they didn't expect you to pay the entire sum for the TV at once.

They set you up with a "payment plan".

It's the same principal. get it?

Why is the 5 million for a new coach included in your figure? It cost money to hire a new coach either way.
