40:00 minutes in.... Ref gives Alabama a catch and a first down. Oh my!!! This is even worse than the 2000 call by A. Matthews giving Florida the lead and the eventual win.

1968 Alabama vs. Tennessee - 1 of 2 - YouTube

Typical Alabubba getting all the calls phantom calls and missed calls lol.

Oh man I greatly appreciate you sharing this!! Bubba Wyche's brother was the HC for the Bengals back in the 80's. and how long has bobby Denton been the PA guy at Neyland. Wow!! I love old school vol stuff keep it coming my friend!!

I'm wondering if the PA announcer was Bobby or John Ward. I thought John did it 1968 and then Bobby started in 1969. Anyone know for sure. By listening, it could be either one, but I think it sounds more like John Ward.

Later in the game, Tennessee downed a punt at the one and the ref called it a touchback. Man!!!!! I did not realize that this stuff was going on back then. Of course I was born in 1970!

Stadium looks so small! Love the grainy film appearance. Oh, and to hell with that ref. Straight up bull**** call.

Unreal. Definitely on the take. There's no way you make that call unless the mafia is threatening to murder your children.

Before they got all technical with the catch rules, back then it was simply possess it long enough to get one foot down. He did that. The question to me is whether it is a fumble or forward progress stopped. I can make a case for either one based on the way the game was officiated back then. For the times, its not really a bad call.

I could swear I heard Bobby Denton's voice in the background at the start of the clip. He doesn't go back that far does he?

I remember Siran Stacy for alubamer falling one yard short of the end zone one year in "burmenhamm". That was one of the craziest I've witnessed. I was about 10 years old and knew that allebumer was the dirtiest and most desperate program in country. They get the best money can buy and still do. Their day is coming again.

Did anyone hear we urge you to pay the prices and please pay Nnooooo mmmmoooorrreeee? If so, it's Denton. He sounded old and tired this year. But glad he still does it. And things haven't been right at UT since John Ward left :( :( :(

Absolutely. So much smoke pouring out of the woods it's unreal. But Emmert don't mess around. Matter of time. :acute:

Wow,

If one thing, that is an incomplete pass.
If it's not that, it is a completion with a fumble....

The one thing it is NOT is a completion with forward progress stopped. Unreal.

1968 was John Ward's first year in the broadcast booth for football, so I doubt if he was serving as the public dress announcer as well. Ward had been broadcasting UT basketball for a year or two before then.

Steve Shaw ALWAYS called against UT! Of course, he's an Alabama alum. As bad as those calls wer/are we've had some calls our way. Who remembers the 04 Fla game where they got an unsportsmanship for retaliation or the clock wasn't started and Wilhoit was able to make up for missed extra point? Or the 92 Fla game when Shuler was clearly down in the rain on the 1 and half yard line and slid in the rain but they gave him TD anyway?

That is true, we also have had some calls go our way but some of these that we are discussing are just beyond bad. This one can't be defended even by the most ardent bama fan. The 1984 first down call when Tennessee was down 27-13 late and William Howard was awarded a first down when he fell a yard short of the marker was one that went our way.

Loved the Colt 45 sponsorship at the beginning.

I thought I was the only one that was enjoying watching the commercials as well. Does anyone have a time machine I can borrow? It seemed like a cool time to live(except for Vietnam of course).
