...the Syracuse Orangemen.

Bookmark this post for later reference. And, of course, discuss as you see fit.

Syracuse is the most complete team in the country. Their length and their ability to play within the game and not force too many errant shots make them a easy pick for the Final Four. My other three would be Kentucky, Nova, and Michigan St.(Don't know why, but they always seem to get nice draws and play hard in the end.)

Texas is very strong team, despite their recent losses. Lots of size and rebounding, which goes well with tourney play, provided that Pittman shows up consistently.

Everything you said is correct, and I was originally quite bullish on Texas....until I actually sat down and watched one of their games in its entirety.

Rick Barnes is a weak link. His coaching deficiencies are similar in nature to -- but greater in magnitude* than -- some of the oft-repeated Pearl criticisms. Namely, installing an effective half court offense and properly managing a deep rotation.

They are seriously loaded, though, and could definitely make a run if they are able to lubricate their presently-chaffing half court sets.

*in my estimation.

Izzo is a great coach, but these are not your '08-'09 Spartans.

Yeah, I've never thought of Rick Barnes as a great coach, and you never hear his name come up for other jobs, or jumping to the NBA, etc. I know it doesn't carry as much as weight now as it did when the game was played, but they absolutely decimated my Heels on the boards. Now, Carolina has been a little too soft on the inside this year, but they had 6 guys in the rotation all 6'-8" and taller, and still got killed. But, in Texas' last few games, including the two losses, Pittman has been rather non-existent (based on stats, I've seen little of either game), so there's their problem. I have no problem placing Texas, Syracuse, and Kentucky over Kansas. Kansas has the talent, but seem to lack the drive. Kentucky has loads of talent, but they're young and inexperienced. Syracuse is well rounded, physical, and always play solid D.

They look good, but my $$$ is still on Coach Cal and company.

2007-2008 Memphis > 2009-2010 Kentucky. Veteran team that had been there before + 1 super freshman. If Cal couldn't win with that bunch up 9 with 2 to go, I don't see him doing it with a Freshman heavy team, regardless of their talent. I realize Patterson and Miles have been there a while, but they have been part of mediocre teams and haven't been in big games, much less know how to win them.

If these "Fab 5" get rattled by a mediocre South Carolina team, what will they do against the more veteran teams at MIchigan State, KU, Syracuse, and Texas when the chips are down in the Sweet 16 or E8?

JMO, I think 'Nova wins it all because...

1. Final Four Experience

2. Scotty Reynolds is the best leader in the country

3. Corey Fisher and Corey Stokes are two of the best 3-point shooters around.

Who is this 'Miles" person is that you speak of? :)

I assume you mean Darius Miller. However he is only a Sophomore, who averaged 8 minutes a game under a coach who crushed the self confidence of his players.

Patterson, Stevenson and Harris are the only upperclassmen, with Patterson as the only substantial contributor. (Harris does play significant minutes because of his defense).

I agree that the odds are against a freshman laden team, but I still think they are one of about 6 teams that can take it the distance, due to talent. By March alot of things work themselves out sometimes.

Personally, I still like Syracuse and Kansas at this point.

syracuse looks good but I think it will be Michigan State....After getting some rest through that big ten schedule and the fact that they always heat up in March

I would bet everything I own that Villanova does win it all. Everything. Socks, gold bond powder, kegerator, macaroni n cheese boxes, sharpies, boxing hand wraps, coasters, dryer sheets, you name it.
