Without a doubt, Bubba Wallace Jr. winning at Martinsville. I have not been this emotionally invested in cheering on a driver in a real long time. This brought a tear to my eye:
Sato at Long Beach. Sato isn't a great driver, and at many times he is a hazard to those around him, but after watching him since the early 2000s it was great to watch him win.
Jeff Godron at Martinsville. Being a Jeff Gordon fan now is like being a Dale Sr., fan was for me in the mid to late 1990s, you realized his best days are in the mirror, but he is still competitive so you savor every win they take. Jeff showed what he could do at a comfortable track for him:
Hungarian Grand Prix. Everyone and their mother was calling Lewis Hamilton a fool for leaving the safe and successful confines of McLaren for the inconsistent world of Mercedes. I even had my doubts, but I figured Lewis knew more than we did. He really did, in the 1st half of the season he was a factor for a number of poles and podiums. When it came time for his best track, he knew what to do:
Other mentions: Bristol night race. I loved all the different lines drivers were taking, especially Juan Pablo. It ended with Kandy Khane not having the guts to move someone out of the way to take a win.
It's funny you say that because during the race I looked at one of my buddies and said pretty much the same thing. IIRC it was one of the faster Indy's on record.
The new cars create such a hole in the air that it makes for some good racing and good passes.
