I did this before the football season and I would also like to get everyone's opinion about the same thing for the basketball season. Who, in your opinion, is the key(the X-factor) to UT having the most success? That one person that, if they are firing on all cylinders, can carry the team. My vote goes to Wayne Chism PROVIDED THAT he stays in the paint. Your thoughts? I'll hang up and listen.

Scotty Hopson appears to be able to get to the rim whenever he tries. I think he could take over a game if he really got aggressive offensively.

I can see where you're coming from. The reason I said Chism was that if he stayed down low and focused on really hitting the boards he could alter any game. Cleaning up all the misses. That 18 rebound game against Vandy last year really raised my expectations for Wayne because it really displayed his potential.

I don't disagree with your general premise. I give the edge to Hopson because he has the ability to kickstart the offense by himself. Chism needs a missed shot or a post feed.

Gotta be Chism, run more inside out offense, but he has to be the beast he is capable of every night, he's a senior and needs to step up and play at that level for us to have success.

I know you asked for an individual, but IMO the point guard position in general is our biggest hole. We seem to be relatively set at most other positions, it is setting up the offense and guarding the other team's point that seems to be our weakest link (e.g. USC's guard driving past both our PG's over and over again).

We need the person playing the point position on the defensive end to step up.

Agreed wayne could be that guy. He's got some things going on with his fam/kids if I'm not mistaking.Hope that's not what's affecting him. Have always loved Wayne, and hope he can end strong for himself and our team. G V (not George Vescey's initials lol)

no one said so i will. T Smith. two years ago he was the most glorified person on the team. Last year he was supposed to carry us and land himself a first round draft pick. Didnt happen. Scotty Hopson can get hot and needs to, and chism the same. But Tyler gives us the extra dimension. not a 3 pt shooter or a huge inside guy but a guy that can put the team on his back if things get ugly. He really needs to step up this year and prove his NBA caliber skills.

I would say that Chism almost has to be the difference maker for Tennessee. Without him determining to be that guy playing tough down low it is going to be a difficult year with more USC-type games to come.

Tournament time(SEC and probably NCAA) is going to be very frustrating to watch if he doesn't go to work in the paint

Look back at the Memphis game 2 years ago if you think that T. Smith isn't clutch

Scotty Hopson. If his 3 ball is going down, his confidence is sky high allowing him to attack the rim better.

I don't ever really remember Scotty being aggressive enough to keep attacking the rim. Especially when his 3 is falling. He USUALLY stays outside. Maybe i'm wrong

the obvious answers are smith, chism or hopson...But I really feel like if tatum ever lives up to his potential he can be exactly what this team needs right now on the offensive end, and a pleasant suprise of talent to many that don't follow this program closely
