Per today's KNS:

If Ohio State wins, Zoo Knoxville Executive Director Bill Schmidt will wear scarlet and red and if Tennessee wins, Columbus Zoo director Tom Schimd has to wear orange and white.

The Boyd Red Panda Exhibit has temporarily been turned orange as they show their support for Tennessee.

As a former employee at Zoo Knoxville, I think this is a great idea and very good public relations for both zoos.

GBO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When I was a student at UT back in maybe '99 I volunteered as a Santa one day at the Knoxville Zoo, they had real reindeer!! Super cool experience.

Didn’t Jack Hanna start at Knoxville Zoo and then move to run Columbus Zoo?
He is from Knoxville, but don’t know if he has any connection to the Knoxville zoo. According to his website, he owned a pet shop in Knoxville in the early 70s. He moved to Florida in the mid-70s to run a zoo before ending up in Columbus in 1978.

As a grad student in 1989 I witnessed veterinarians at the Knoxville Zoo operating on a tiger. While the tiger was under anesthesia I squeezed one of its paws to extend the claw like you would with a house cat. The claw was as long as my index finger! I have a photo of it somewhere I'll try to fish out.

Although unable to secure zoning as a zoo for his family's farm, Hanna and Suzi opened a pet shop and petting zoo. In 1972, a three-year-old boy was mauled by a lion at Hanna's farm and lost an arm after slipping past the protective barrier. Hanna settled a later lawsuit out of court, shut down the petting zoo, and moved his family to Florida. From Wikipedia about Hanna’s Knoxville days

From watching his program over the years…I think Columbus zoo under his leadership has been instrumental in mating/birthing endangered species.
