Yesterday was a busy day in recruiting as Tennessee continues to evaluate players in both football and basketball.
FOOTBALL RECRUITING
- Tennessee offered 2015 Florida athlete Ryan Davis (★★★). Davis tweeted, “@thaRD5: Just Officially been Offered by University of Tennessee #Blessed #SEC #VOLS.” Davis plays quarterback at the high school level, but projects as a wide receiver or corner at the next level according to ESPN.
- Tennessee offered 2015 New Jersey prep school offensive tackle Grant Newsome (★★★★), according to Rivals’ Adam Friedman. At 6-foot-7, 280 pounds, Newsome is considered one of the top 30 tackles in the country. [junior highlights]
- Tennessee visited with former Florida State commit 2015 Florida defensive end Marlon Gonzalez (★★★) this week. The Vols are one of a handful of schools standing out to Gonzalez and he hopes to visit this summer. [Hudl highlights]
- Tennessee made the top ten for 2015 Indiana linebacker Darrin Kirland, Jr (★★★★). He tweeted, “@_KIRKjunior: Top 10 (No Order), Here it is! http://t.co/5wNruLlw0P.” In no order his ten schools are: Penn State, Kentucky, Michigan, Tennessee, Texas, Ole Miss, Oklahoma, Virginia Tech, Wisconsin, North Carolina. - The Vols are in the top eight for 2015 Georgia cornerback Darius Slayton (★★★★). His list of eight in the order listed: Georgia, Auburn, LSU, South Carolina, Clemson, OSU, Alabama, Tennessee. [Hudl highlights]
- On the 2016 front, Tennessee offered Washington, D.C. defensive end/tight end Devante Brooks. [Hudl highlights]
- The Vols are “surging” for 2016 Spartanburg, South Carolina running back Tavien Feaster (★★★★★). At 6-foot, 180 pounds, Feaster is generally regarded as the top running back in the 2016 class.
- Tennessee offered 2016 Plant City, Florida wide receiver Tavares Chase (★★★★). Chase tweeted, “@tjchase3: Offered By Tennessee! #eBlessed #Volunteers #RockyTop.”
- In the 2017 class, Nashville, Tennessee athlete Jacoby Stevens says the Vols lead for his services. “Right now, I can confidently say that they are on top,” he told Ryan Callahan. It’s early, but Stevens is regarded as one of the top prospects in the state for 2017.
BASKETBALL RECRUITING
- 2014 Virginia point guard Shelton Mitchell (★★★★) has been released from his letter of intent at Wake Forest. Tennessee is trying to get in the mix for Shelton, who is considered a top 20 point guard in the country.
- Tennessee is showing interest in 2015 shooting guard Tevin Mack (★★★★). Mack is a top 100 player nationally according to Rivals.com
OTHER NOTES
- Tennessee running back signee Derrell Scott is up to 192 pounds (photo), according to Gerry Hamilton. He reports to campus on May 26th.
- Former Tennessee basketball signee CJ Turman may end up at Florida Atlantic, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution. “We’ve got a good relationship with those coaches, so I wouldn’t be surprised if he ended up at Florida Atlantic,” his AAU coach said.
