Tennessee picked up yet another basketball commitment on Tuesday when 6-foot-1 guard Ian Chiles committed to the Vols. Chiles is a transfer from IUPUI and has one season of eligibility remaining. He is expected to fax his scholarship papers sometime today.
“I chose Tennessee because of the opportunity to obtain my Masters degree in a counseling program,” Chiles told CBSSports.com. “Also, the opportunity for me to come in and make a big impact on a team ready to make big moves in the SEC, as well as around the nation.“
Chiles averaged 15.8 points last season and chose the Vols over Auburn and Maryland. His ties to Tennessee were a big factor. “The ties I had to Tennessee were also a major part in my decision, with my sister, India Chiles, being the first SEC Player of the Year for their softball program,” he said. “They took so good care of her down there that I know I’m in good. Assistant coach Chris Shumate played with my brother at Murray [State] and I’ve been knowing him for at least 10 years. And I just felt comfortable with the staff as a whole.”
