Willie Carmichael, a 6-foot8, 195-pound power forward from Wekiva High School in Apopka, Florida, has signed with Tennessee. “Officially a Tennessee volunteer #VFl pic.twitter.com/tlpcJYTnR7,” he tweeted.
The commit is Tennessee’s third today and fourth since yesterday (Ian Chiles, Erik McKnight, Devon Baulkman).
Carmichael originally signed with Southern Miss, but asked for and was granted a release from his national letter of intent after coach Donnie Tyndall left for Tennessee. He picked the Vols over Florida Atlantic, Florida Gulf Coast and Alabama.
“Coach Tyndall and his staff have been on me from the beginning,” Carmichael told Rivals.com. “They saw me at a Disney showcase tournament and I was dominating one of their recruits. He recognized my high motor and told me that I reminded him of Kenneth Faried that played for him.”
Carmichael is the second former signee from Southern Miss to sign with Tennessee, joining JUCO guard Devan Baulkman.
