Five-star defensive tackle Shy Tuttle, from Lexington, North Carolina, has set a decision date. “I’m making my decision September 26 before the tabor game,” he tweeted on Wednesday afternoon.
The 6-foot-3, 315-pound Tuttle is considered a top-50 prospect overall and the No. 1 player in the state of North Carolina. Most experts believe Tennessee is the favorite for his services, followed by North Carolina.
The Tarheel state is considered fertile recruiting ground for the Butch Jones and the Vols. Last year Tennessee pulled Emmanuel Moseley (who will likely start at cornerback as a true freshman this season) and Derrell Scott (who has been hindered by injury but should break into the running back rotation) from the state.
In the 2015 class, Tennessee holds verbal commitments from two North Carolina prospects: defensive back Stephen Griffin and running back Rocky Reid.
Quarterback Austin Kendall from Waxhaw, NC has already committed to the Vols’ 2016 class.
