Butch Jones appeared on the Paul Finebaum Show on Wednesday, and his message was clear regarding Tennessee’s search for a new offensive coordinator: “Trust me, I’m the caretaker of Tennessee football,” he said.

Below are some other quotes from Butch’s appearance on the show via UT.

JONES (on recruiting): I’m very proud of everyone in our football family and excited for Vol Nation.

JONES: We’re very excited. For us to take the next step, we have to develop our depth and competitive character.

JONES on the OC: We’re going through the phase of multitasking, finishing recruiting and finding the right fit for our football program

JONES: Chemistry of a staff is very important, we have great candidates and a lot of interest in our football program.

JONES: @UTCoachJake had a dream of coaching in the NFL and we’re happy for him.

JONES: It’s a great opportunity to take the next step in our football program to make us better.

JONES: I am the caretaker of Tennessee football and I know what we need. We’re going to get the best coach out there.

JONES: @josh_dobbs1 has done a great job. You can see the confidence he gained this season in leading our workouts right now.

JONES: You have to keep working every day. You’re always one step away. When the opportunity comes, make the most of it.

JONES: I believe we’re on schedule. We have a long way to go. We’re not there yet, but we’re making great strides.

JONES: We have to keep getting better and better to take the next step.

  1. bUTch has got it goin on at Tennessee………..just sit back and watch the ride !!!!!

    • I wonder if “caretaker of Tennessee football” is something Butch came up with or if the UT PR people provided him with that? It seems people are having a positive reaction to the comment for the most part.

      Thanks for the comment ReelfootVol.

  2. <>

Well, that should take care of everything posted in the past 5 days! Nothing to do now but wait. If he’s bring the best coach out there, then I can’t see how we would lose our #1 ranking for Best Staff in the Nation. 😀

    • ** We’re going to get the best coach out there. **

Ha, don’t use “>” when framing quotes.

  3. No different than a CEO of a Fortune 500 company. CBJ will make the hire that he feels gives us the best chance to win.

    • Butch seems to have done alright with his hires to this point. I see no reason to question his decision at this point. Of course, it’s been quite a while since he’s had to hire an offensive coordinator.

Thanks for the comment 1985 Vols.

  4. He wants it to appear that the program belongs to the fans and the alumni and that we trusted him to run it. He wants us to feel that we have a vested interest in the program.
