In a statement released late Friday, Joc Bruce confirmed that he’s leaving Tennessee.Bruce said in a statement to VolQuest and WVLT, “I would like to announce that I will no longer be attending the University of Tennessee. Coach Jones and I have talked, and have together decided that this is what is best for me at this time. I still plan to attend college, as well as play football, and I look forward to working with Coach Jones, and the University of Tennessee as they help me find an appropriate fit. I appreciate the support I’ve received from Coach Jones, and the entire Vol Nation.

The Vol freshman was suspended from team activities earlier this week for “not applying self off the field,” according to Jimmy Hyams.

Bruce tweeted early Thursday the suspension had nothing to do with grades, rather he was late for class.

  1. Well you either play by Butch’s rules or ….you will be asked to hit the road jack. Period no question about it as it should be.

  2. This is rather sad for Mister Bruce, but Butch Jones sets unbending standards. The FSUs, bama teams and tOSUs, et al, may be successful on the field while allowing their players to sidestep high-set standards, but the parents of potential future Vols recognize that if their sons are fortunate enough to be offered scholarships to the University of Tennessee, their youngsters will spend the next four years being in a family that’ll lead them to be respectable achievers and champions…on and off the field. Keep up the great work Coach Jones.
