“Me and the coaching staff have a great relationship, and I felt like that was going to be home for me,” Lewis told 247Sports. I like what they do with their quarterbacks. They try to use their legs and arm, and I’m good at both. And I think that I can strive at Tennessee. If I put my heart into it and work hard, go full speed, I think I can be that guy.”
According to Lewis, Butch Jones told him he was “number one on his board.”
Measuring 6-3, 205, Lewis is rated three stars by 247Sports. He’s the No. 8 player in the state and the No. 40 dual-threat quarterback.
He chose Tennessee over Boston College, Buffalo and Connecticut.

Butch pulled in Dobbs. Butch pulled in Dormady. Butch pulled in Guarantano. Nonetheless, VN’s pathological star gazers are going to whimper over “not enough stars.” Welcome, Mister Lewis, to the greatest show on earth!
He is only a three-star, and he doesn’t have the best offer list in the world, but let’s hope Butch has found a hidden gem. They liked him enough at camp to offer, so he’s clearly not without some skill. And he’s a dual-threat, which seems to be a must in our current system.
Thanks for the comment, sameolvol.
CJ has the size, athleticism, quickness, and shows good decision-making. Most important is the accuracy his video demonstrates. Dropping dimes into fly patterns without breaking his receivers’ stride… putting the ball into tight coverage–NOT with force but with the ideal trajectory… notice where his receivers catch the ball in relation to the defender’s position.
Cheshire Academy is one of those old, elite prep schools (founded in 1794, emphasis on academics and character development). It currently attracts students from 20 states and 32 countries, has 43 faculty with advanced degrees, and the school average SAT score is 1649. I don’t know anything about young Mr. Lewis personally, but if he’s thriving at Cheshire, that probably says plenty.
Vol fans are looking at his *** and thinking he’s been recruited for his athleticism, but don’t be surprised if someday he not only starts at QB, but becomes the “face of the program” much as Dobbs has been.
Great comment, BruisedOrange. I wasn’t familiar with Cheshire Academy. Lewis sounds like a smart young man. Thanks for posting.
If coach Jones has proven anything it is that he has an eye for tallent! Go Big Orange!
