Gullickson on Trey Smith: ‘This guy is ready’

Speaking to SportsTalk on Tuesday afternoon, Tennessee’s new director of strength and conditioning Rock Gullickson, commented on the opportunity to work with Tennessee’s five early enrollees this spring, and what it takes to get them strong enough to go up against SEC caliber juniors and seniors.

“Everybody’s going to be a little different,” Gullickson said. “Some of them have been training since they are nine years old and they had good advisors, good coaches — they were in a good program. Others don’t have that experience so everybody’s going to be at a little bit different level.”

Gullickson seemed particularly impressed by five-star offensive lineman Trey Smith.

“I looked at Trey Smith today. I’m like, this guy is ready. I watched him, he did a little workout yesterday on his own and I was there to watch him and help him with a few things.”

“Certainly, there are areas we need to work on to improve, but everybody is really different and it’s gonna take me a minute to figure out who needs what.”

Tennessee’s early enrollees were introduced during last night’s basketball game against South Carolina.

  1. Lol….Locklear is every bit as big as Smith. I hope they can find jerseys big enough to fit those two guys.

  2. Championships are won in the trenches and we looked to be set there for the foreseeable future.

    • Yeah!

That off season work in the gym will pay off big on the field.

I have a feeling this team will be well prepared.
