Shortly after junior quarterback Quinten Dormady put on a show in front of fans at Tennessee’s annual Orange and White Game, 3-star quarterback Michael Penix from Tampa, Florida announced his decision to commit to the Vols.
“I would like to thank God for the opportunities and abilities he has given me,” Penix wrote. “I also want to thank all the people who have always believed in me. But after talking it over with my parents and coaches, I have decided to verbally commit to THE UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE.”

Penix is listed at 6-foot-1, 182 pounds and is rated the No. 25 pro-style quarterback by 247Sports.
He had offers from Arizona, Florida Atlantic, Georgia State, Oregon, Rutgers, Toledo and USF, and becomes the Vols’ sixth commit in the class of 2018.
Penix is the second prospect to commit to Tennessee this weekend and the second from the state of Florida. Last night, Melbourne, FL all-purpose back Jashaun Corbin announced his commitment.
Tallahassee wide receiver Devondirc Miller said at last month’s Rivals 3 Stripe Camp Series in Orlando, “Best quarterback is Michael Penix. The ball is always on point and he never underthrows you. If he misses, he always misses long.”
