KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee football program added its 18th signee to the 2019 Signing Class on Thursday when running back Eric Gray inked with the Vols.
A Memphis native, Gray is the first-ever three-time Mr. Football recipient in the state of Tennessee. He set a state record with 138 touchdowns and rushed for over 2,000 yards in each of the last three seasons.
“Eric is a guy that comes from a winning football program,” Tennessee head football coach Jeremy Pruitt said. “He is used to having the ball in his hands. He’s very creative. He has really good hands, runs with power and great vision. It’s hard to get a good lick on him. He’s a guy that we targeted early in the process and we’re really excited that he is here. He’s another guy that’s a very good student, comes from a good family and we’re fired up about having him.”
Gray was selected for the All-American Bowl, which will be played on Jan. 5 in San Antonio, along with his new teammate Ramel Keyton, a wide receiver from Marietta, Ga.
Additionally, the class features two other signees who will play in national high school all-star games. Defensive back Jaylen McCollough and offensive lineman Wanya Morriswere selected for the Under Armour All-America Game, which will be played on Jan. 3 in Orlando.
The Early Signing Period continues on Friday and the later National Signing Day will be on Feb 6.
