AUGUSTA, Ga. – Tennessee senior Paxton Brooks was one of eight punters named to the Ray’s 8 list for week seven, presented by the Augusta Sports Council and the Ray Guy Award.
Brooks proved to be a valuable weapon for the Vols in their close loss to No. 13 Ole Miss, consistently pinning the Rebels deep in their own territory with five of his six punts being downed inside the 20-yard line. His five punts downed inside the 20 tied a career best.
Brooks had two punts travel 50-plus yards and the only one of his six punts that was returned went for a 2-yard loss as he averaged 43.5 yards per boot on the night.
The Ray Guy Award watch list selection has now earned weekly honors three times from the organization throughout his career after garnering recognition twice in 2020.
All eight punters named to the Ray’s 8 list are eligible to be named the Ray Guy Award Punter of the Week, which will be announced on Tuesday at 10 a.m. ET.
